    If im not wrong, the 256-bit 7800gt should be faster than this card. The upshot for this 8600 gts is the fanless cooling, dx10 support, h.264 acceleration.

    there shouldn't be any problems if you have enough airflow in your case. plus, this card runs at stock speed as it's not factory overclocked.

    at stock speeds, i believe msi has the cheapest core 2 duo ready 975x mobo. if i didn't have the stupid floppy test fail issue, i'd be fine with this board. gotta set aside half a day to swap out the board as i'm guessing the board has a faulty fdd controller.

    the 7900gs should be a pci-e only video card and its planned to hit the $199 pricepoint. initial batch will likely retail around $230 or so. 7600GS agp will be your best bet for sub $200 and 7800GS for sub $300.

    if you dont have any plans to o/c, definitely go w/the much cheaper P5B non-deluxe. The deluxe version adds wifi-g , fireware (as you pointed out), SATA RAID, dual gigabit ethernet and probably the most important feature for overclockers for max stability: 8-phase power.

    for a non-ws lcd and with the budget you have, i'd recommend the viewsonic vp2030b. i picked one up recently for a friend and tested it out before passing it onto him. this 8ms gtg lcd is lag-free in both dvds and videogames based on my testing at the native rez of 16x12.

    the antec smartpower 2.0 series of psu are fairly new and you shouldn't have any problems using it to power most (if not all) of today's mobos. certainly if you plan on put sli to use then you might want to consider a better psu with (true) 500w or more.
