Q9550 Yorkfield Temp Issues on E0 Stepping

She is working perfectly. the new processor with the arctic cooler 7 idles around 38-40C and with the Intel burn in tool, it just gets into the low 60s. I had some memory stability problems with the cheap OCZ 1066 memory I bought. Fixed timings and throttled back to 800 MHz and it seems to...

Q9550 Yorkfield Temp Issues on E0 Stepping

yeah, it is a Gigabyte EP45-UD3R. I like the board. It seems good. It was doing what is was supposed to be doing. It was the chip that was failing.

Q9550 Yorkfield Temp Issues on E0 Stepping

Well, I RMAed the chip. It was consistently into the mid 70s and then it crashed once. After that the BIOS went into boot thrashing (don't know what to call it when it reboots repeatedly trying to find an acceptable speed) and finally settled at a multiplier of 6X. That is 2GHz. That sucks...

Q9550 Yorkfield Temp Issues on E0 Stepping

Yikes!! 100C. That is hot. I guess I don't really have a problem. With that said, I have had one crash while burning-in somewhere in the mid70s. I may try to cool it down a bit, but I guess I shouldn't worry so much. thanks

Q9550 Yorkfield Temp Issues on E0 Stepping

From the Intel Datasheet. On page 76 it identifies the 95 watt Q9550 and refers you to table 5-4 and Figure 5-3. When you get to table 5-4, it refers to 71.4 degrees C for TCase at 95 watts. I was mistaken; it was not Tjunction it was Tcase.

Q9550 Yorkfield Temp Issues on E0 Stepping

what temps are you seeing? I know that 70 degrees C isn't outrageous for an overclocked system, but intel's data sheet says 71.4 degrees C is max operating TJunction temp, so I figured I should achieve that at stock speeds before I consider myself stabilized.

Q9550 Yorkfield Temp Issues on E0 Stepping

hadn't thought of undervolting. I may see if it runs stable at lower vcore. I haven't closed-up the case to test performance yet, so I don't know what case temps will be yet. I too am not overly concerned with overclocking this processor. Limiting factors on a system like this are really...

Q9550 Yorkfield Temp Issues on E0 Stepping

I got an E0 stepping Yorkfield Q9550 from New Egg last week. Everything is assembled and running. Vista 64 installed. Temps are high. Idle is upper 30s while the BIOS lowers the multiplier to 6X instead of the 8.5X that is run under load. Under a load of 4X Prime95, it shows temps...

XPSP2 Delayed Write Failure with MyBook

I disconnected all my USB peripherals and tried another backup. It worked without error. If it gets through the backup process 3 times without error, I will start plugging in USB peripherals to see when it starts failing again. This is crazy!

XPSP2 Delayed Write Failure with MyBook

The file system is NTFS. I have tried it with and without the PCI USB card. I doubt it is the cable because it generally fails after 8-12 hours of working. I have downloaded a program called USBInfo that is kind of cool. It helps debug all your enumerated USB devices. I have removed...

XPSP2 Delayed Write Failure with MyBook

XPSP2 Delayed Write Failure with MyBook

I have been trying to backup my system with a Western Digital MyBook and various backup programs (WinZip, Genie Soft). For some reason, the process rarely completes successfully. I generally get a Delayed Write Failure when it is somewhere around half-way through. My backup is about 300 GB of...

best low-profile word processing software other than MS Word?

Open Office Writer is just fine. It runs plenty fast, and I can't imagine it would be any worse than any of the MSWord versions. It handles any MS doc formats too. For general home use, I can't imagine that you need any more. I have been using it without incident for over a year. At work I...

Navy to Mask Swastika Look of Barracks in California

If they were planning to do remodeling anyway, which is possible if the building was constructed in the 60's, then why not spend a few bucks to break up the lines that make it a swastika. Otherwise, it is kind of a silly waste. On the other hand, our military has image problems to spare...

Why are silicon wafers round if chips are rectangular?

A good place to start would be photolithography. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photolithography . It is a lot like a photographic printing process with dozens of layers stacked on top of the other. Instead of a traditional printing 'negative' they use reticles that cost millions of dollars for...

PS CS3 sensitive to overclocking methods

So I have been debugging crashes of my PS CS3 installation on very large photomerge operations (68 images merged to create one image). I discovered that PS didn't like my underclocked Northbridge. After setting the RAM speed and CAS latency lower, I was able to regain stability, albeit at a...

    Calling Rossman!

cernax has been pretty good for me, although I had some email issues that were never really resolved. We couldnt tell if the problem was my host (Cernax) or the other host. I moved my email to Google and the problem persists, though I am not sure if that proves anything. I was a bit naive...

yagt: shot a bunch of handguns last night.... and I fell in love with a .22

I also like 357 because you can shoot 38 through it for a lighter load. It isn't as cheap as 22, but it is a more versatile handgun with a manly load and a girlie load.....I like the girlie load for most stuff. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone makes an automatic 357....wait....actually...
