Thank you everyone for the replies. A lot of the "points" were put with question marks for a reason. I just did not know, but wanted to generate a reaction, which worked. ElFenix - Pentax lenses (except for manual focus) did go up in price quite a bit, a bit more than Minolta AF (now A mount)...

Am I the only one getting lockups and reboots after Firefox upgraded to 1.504?

No problems here on 2 machines... That sounds very weird - windows should not crash when you end a program.

SiS741GX has an onboard graphics chip that takes some of your system memory, 64MB in your case. You can set how much it uses in the BIOS, for 2D work only, 32 MB should be sufficient. HTH

7800gtx or new Mobo, case and Memory

A new video card will do wonders. A lot of new games are more GPU bound. I still have an old Barton 2500+ (although o/c'ed to 3100+), and with an ATI X800 Pro, it performs well in most games.

I have done this before. One quick'n'dirty solution is to put a "wget http://mysite.com/myscript.php" into the crontab. I think with -q to run it quiet. In the crontab you can set how often you want the script to be loaded. If you have php5, you can also run the script directly from the command...

Let's hear it for the freezer trick!

It actually really does work. I did it once for a DELL laptop HD that died on me. Freezer to get the data off, and then back to DELL for a replacement. I did not believe it myself at first, but it actually works.

system hangs for about 2 minutes before XP loading screen.....

I have the exact same "problem" on an Asus motherboard... For me, the problem arrived when adding a 160GB HD to a system with a 60GB HD... The 60GB is addressed with LBA, the 160GB is addressed with CHS. Check if your HD is addressed with CHS, that would explain it. Unfortunately, I have not...

Is it only DVDs that do that? What about game CDs or better, game DVDs? If it always does that when you enter a CD/DVD. it sounds like a strange hardware issue. If it is just when you put in movie DVDs, maybe it is just a driver issue - in which case I would delete the driver from the System...

This may sound stupid, but did you use a surround sound source? Regular music will often come out only the usual "stereo" way unless you change certain settings. Also, some soundcards and ESPECIALLY onboard sound first need to be switched to 5.1 (otherwise they are set to line in or headphone...
