Same thing at the one I go to. VS.Net, Office, Windows XP, etc - all around 5 bucks each. Univ of Washington also has MSDN Academic Alliance - you can download a lot of MS titles free if you are taking CSE courses.

Better for cooling: A mini tower or mid tower?

I would think the mid tower if for no other reason than a greater volume of air and more space for fans. I don't know if that would translate to any realistic difference though... I doubt it would.

Looking for Tbird CPU heatsink that is big to Fit 92mm Fan on it, PLEASE READ... !!!

ax-7 + vantec stealth 80 mm 21dba / 27cfm cools great. there really isnt a need to go as high as 92mm imo.

running windows xp (1900+ rig in sig). i just installed the Asus v8200 t2 deluxe which is a philips tv-out chip so has twinview. but i cant seem to activate it, i have tried all the detonators from 28.32s to the beta 29.20s with no luck. with my old v7100 deluxe it just detected my attached tv...

XP Pro on a New MB

one way to try it is before you take out the old mobo, go into device manager and delete all the system devices, as well as all the ide controllers, and any other on board resources (such as sound). then power down, change the mobo and it _should_ redect everything for the new mobo...

Case vs CPU temps...

ive always thought that a large difference between case and cpu temp indicated a bad CPU cooler, is this true? ive got a XP 1900+ with a volcano 6cu (note: not the cu+ version, the lower dba/cfm cu version) and current temps are: case: 24C CPU: 47C just asking because ive got a AX-7, Vantec...

Any luck with a "Nibbler" ?

the directron one is the same as a radio shack one, both cut little tiny rectangles out (chunks). ive used this to do drive covers for my lian li and that took a while and required filing, etc. no way i would cut a whole window cutout with it. if you have access to a dremmel or a good jigsaw...

Sound Damping materials... effective?

i added a layer of dynamat to the inside of one of my cases a while ago. i found that with nice (expensive) quiet fans it was great, but if you have any normal fans or a large amount of fans the noise seemed louder. i now have a lian li and whisper power supply, and panaflos and its much quieter...

PAL8045 Fan Direction?

while most HS are designed to have air blown onto them, the 8045 is designed to have air blown away from it. if you want to test it out to see what the best results with your case airflow setup would be (though it will most likely be with air blowing away) i would suggest trying it both ways and...

help installing fan on AX-7

thats right. the rubber rings are to go between to heatsink and fan to eliminate some of the noise caused by contact. youll also want to have the fan blowing down, onto the heatsink.

I believe the Seagate Barracuda IV series is the quietest. i have one and ive never been able to hear it over my WD 7200rpm :)

the creative inspire 5300s are a good 5.1 system that can be had for about 90 USD. They are specifically made to work with the audigy line of soundcards. the only downside is that they do not have digital connections (hence the low price) so your s/n ratio isnt going to be as close to 100 as...

ATA 133 controller card??

that mobo has 4 ATA133 channels, hence the 133 in its name. these include controller chips. in fact you probably would have problems using an additional controller card with a board like this. so in answer to your question, no you dont need to buy an additional card. :)
