Thanks for the reply redsalamander... thats what I was thinking. Just so happened to that my raid crapped out the day of the RPC bomb.
Too bad its a RAID0 and I can't put it in another machine =/
Guess, I'll have to live with the stuff I can backup.
What would you do if any kind of scan on your computer from chkdsk to antivirus to symantec's blasterfix caused it to crash midway through? Safe mode also crashes while loading.
System ran fine 24 hours ago. Latest two things that happened: had the msblaster virus [but it doens't do this kind...
blaster virus doesn't cause this stuff though...
it does no real damage
this problem is rendering my computer unusable. it freezes on any system scan (antivirus, disk doctor, chkdsk, etc.)
any ideas? please!!
Good evening all,
Significant system specs:
-Gigabyte 7AVXP
-Athlon 1.4
-Gigabyte Radeon 9700 128mb
-RAID0: 2x WD 40gb 7200rpm
-TBSC
-Windows XP SP1
This morning my computer crashed when I tried to access a folder [on my raid0], the system crashed... took a while to reboot (like 7 minutes)...
Thanks for the reply wizdum.
If I RMA it (I question whether I could, its been over a year), won't I be experiencing the same problem with high-end vidcards?
Update:
Just managed to boot up with my Chaintech gef4. However, it still crashes at AGP 4x (even though my 5v is at 5.05 after the PSU replacement)
Looks like everything is pointing to the mobo.
Comments? Opinions? Suggestions?
edit: fixed typo
OK.
I just got done w/ some testing.
I uninsatlled the VIA AGP and reinstalled the AMD AGP
Then I pretty much tried every cominbation possible with Video RAM Cachable, Bios Cacheable, Aperature Size, Fast Write, Super Bypass Mode, Always Compensate... but to no avail. I'm back at 2x.
One...
I will mess around with some of those settings, thanks. Fast Write disabled is up first :)
Just installed the VIA 4 in 1's... Still crashed. Gonna uninstall them and reinstall the ADM miniport.
I have a 430W ATX PSU.. don't think thats the problem
Again thanks for the reply. I'll keep you...
Thanks for the reply weeber.
I did try changing my Aperature Size to 64 and 256 (I can't do 512, BIOS doesn't allow it).
I will try latest VIA 4 in 1's... I thought the AMD miniport would be better. but we'll see :)
Any other ideas folks?

<< Don't be scared...........its only $100 down the drain if you crush the CPU kernel..........wait and another $120 if ur screwdriver accidently slides and cut ur mobo's PCB. Only $220 down........but you get expierence.........expierence is priceless. You'll just be poor until the next pay...

<< 2. Apply ASII to motherboard's heatsink >>
I'm not sure what you mean here. As far as I know, you only apply a thin layer of ASII to the CPU core. >>
Maybe he is going to pull the chipset cooler off and put ASII on it as well. I have seen lots of reviews where the tech found...
<< You made the classic newbie mistake. Lemme fix it for you.
17) Kick back with a nice brewski.
Get it right next time or I'll have to confiscate your system.

Seeing that you're in NY, windogg, you'd have to join me!
Hans, could you explain a little bit more about the FSB...
Can people who have experience please comment on the following chronological procedure of building my new comp?
Thanks!
The mobo is an Epox EP-8K7A+ (cpu 1.4 athlon), the cpu's heatsink/fan is Thermalright SK-6 w/ Delta 60x60x25 fan
1. Power supply (install fan on power supply, if needed)...
