    6800GT Fit in Shuttle SFF?

Most (all?) of the 6800GTs I've seen are single slot. But most (not all) of the Ultra and Ultra Extreme cards I've seen, however, are so wide that they take up two slots.

    6800GT Fit in Shuttle SFF?

Does anyone have any experience trying to fit a 6800GT or similar size card into a Shuttle SFF such as the SN45, SN41, SK43, SB61, etc.? I was able to get a Voodoo5 into an SK41, but it was a tight fit getting the molex plugged in since the connector on the card ends up being almost at the...

BFG 6800 OC Owners - How Loud is Your Card?

Newegg has two different versions of the 6800GT, and the difference appears to be in the number of fans. There's one that sports two fans and blue LEDs, and one that appears to have just one fan and no LEDs. Which one did you get?

Windows 2000 Pro vs Windows 98SE

I played around with a Win2K SP3 machine here last night. Installed MadOnion's 3DMark 2000 and Blizzard's Diablo II demo. Played with each, then checked the vertical refresh rate via the monitor's front panel buttons. In both cases, the refresh rate remained at 75Hz, which is what I'd set the...

Windows 2000 Pro vs Windows 98SE

Thanks for the link to the Tom's article. It was good to see that, generally speaking, Win2K is not a liability when it comes to speed vs Win98SE. However, I wasn't aware of the 60Hz problem. That could certainly put a damper on things. A couple of notes regarding the Tom's article: 1)...

    Bad DIMM? Or bad motherboard?

That was my first thought, also, that the DIMM was bad. However, I have been able to run it at 2-2-2 under Memtest on a Shuttle KM266 board and an AOpen KT266A board for over 12 hours each with no errors. This DIMM is only bad in the one AOpen KT400 board. And the AOpen KT400 board gives me...

    Bad DIMM? Or bad motherboard?

Timings are not by SPD. For the two Mushkin DIMMs, timings were set to 2-2-2 and 2T CMD as Mushkin advertises that the DIMMS support these settings. The 512MB DIMM passes; the 256MB DIMM in question doesn't although it does pass at 2.5-3-3. I've tried voltages from 2.5 to 2.65 for the 256MB...

    Bad DIMM? Or bad motherboard?

I'm having trouble putting a system together and want some advice from you techies out there. DIMM A (256MB) has problems on Motherboard 1, regardless of which slot it is located. Sometimes upon boot, the full 256MB is reported as being present; at other times, a lesser amount (like 115MB) is...

PC vs Mac, which one is better?

This discussion is pointless. The very title of this thread, "...which one is better?" already shows that the nature of the comparison will be entirely subjective. "Better" in this case cannot be objectively defined, so there is no way to objectively conclude that the one platform is...

Does 2D Video Quality still vary between video cards?

A Universal AGP 3.0 motherboard is also supposed to be backward compatible with old AGP 3.3V cards. But be careful--a motherboard with a universal slot won't necessarily support older cards. There seem to be at least a few SiS648 or KT400 boards with universal slots that support 1.5V or 0.8V...

    3.3V AGP

Asus' P4S8X also has a universal slot but doesn't support a 3.3V card. In fact, there is a warning light that comes on should a 3.3V card be inserted, and the board will refuse to boot. So far, what you're telling me doesn't jive with what I'm seeing/hearing elsewhere.
  16. G

    3.3V AGP

Ah, OK, that makes sense. Would you care to address the AOpen KT333 board having a universal AGP slot but apparently not supporting 3.3V cards?

    3.3V AGP

Peter, BTW, in your last post, you say that supply voltage is mainboard dependent, but then you go on to say that it is always 3.3V. Would you explain? Thanks.

    3.3V AGP

AOpen has a picture of their AK77-333 (KT333) board. The picture shows a universal AGP slot: http://club.aopen.com.tw/pss/largeview.asp?modelname=AK77-333&img=http://www.aopen.com/products/mb/images/ak77-333-b.jpg However, their manual for this board clearly states "this AGP expansion slot is...

    3.3V AGP

Peter, SiS' web site doesn't say that the 648 is compatible with 2X. nVidia's web site doesn't say that nForce (1 or 2) is compatible with 2X. Likewise, as you mentioned, Intel's site doesn't say that its P4 chipsets are compatible with 2X. This leads me to believe that these chipsets do not...

    3.3V AGP

VIA's Web site says that both the KT333 and KT400 support AGP 4X and 2X...but does anybody know of any motherboards that will allow the use of an AGP 2X 3.3V card?

    ASUS A7N266e & WCIII

Any progress in getting the problem solved? Are you able to play other games OK with this system? I've heard about possible problems with nForce's sound, so you might try disabling it and seeing if that does the trick or possibly updating the chipset drivers.

Anyone with the Asus A7V266-E board, Please Read

It's good that you got it figured out. For the benefit of anyone else who might have the same problem, the HDD LED header is not contiguous with the other headers for power LED, power switch, reset switch, etc. The HDD LED header is slightly to the side and sits all by itself.

What is the BEST Overclocking AthlonXP Motherboard for SDRAM

I was able to get a KK266 up to at least 140MHz before it started doing weird things. At that point, however, I don't know what was holding me back. It shouldn't have been the RAM as I was using Mushkin's PC133 Rev 3+, but my cooling setup wasn't so great, so that would be my first guess. The...

    Can I use DDR PC2700 in A7V266-E?

You can use the faster memory in the A7V266E. The question is whether the other components (e.g. CPU, PCI cards) will be able to keep up at the faster speed. If you can change the multiplier setting of the CPU, you should have more success at being able to run the memory faster than 133MHz...

What do people think of the C-Media CMI-8738 chip?

I, too, have had no problems overclocking with a SB Live! I used to push my BX board to 148MHz, and the Live! kept up just fine. I've tried the onboard CMEDIA sound on both an Iwill KK266 and an ASUS A7V266E, and I don't care at all for the sound quality. Maybe it's just the drivers, but I...

    Asus A7V266E Memory Question.

I'd guess that you might no longer be able to run at 145MHz and that you might need to scale back a bit. If so, you may get better results by just running the one 512MB DIMM.

Anyone have the Asus A7V266-E/aa motherboard with an AMD XP processor (any good?)??

The built-in CMEDIA chip should work fine for listening to MP3s, playing games, etc. But I found that the sound quality leaves something to be desired, so I dropped in an Audigy, which sounds much better.

    Mac Motherboards???

Not quite true. You can get motherboards for older Macs (say, pre-G3) and actually put together a system out of components. With newer systems--certainlly anything with a G4--it's a different story, but it's still not quite as closed as you might think it is.

    Shuttle SV24

I haven't tried playing DVDs or DIVX using the TV out (or not, for that matter). As I recall, the DVD assist features of the Savage4 were not on par with those of the Rage Fury (or whatever board ATI had that was contemporary with the Savage 4 boards from over two years ago), so I would expect...

    which asus mobo??

I skimmed through an article online during this past week (sorry, I don't remember where...) that examined different sound solutions, and the article had a section on CPU utilization. K7T Turbo2 and SB Live! cards...

This may not help you much, but the SBLive is compatible with the K7T Turbo2 (at least under Win98SE and presumable Win2K as well). The chipset/SB Live compatibility issues have indeed been solved and should not be a problem with this motherboard.

which KT133A (SDRAM) MB work with AthlonXP

Peter007, The ECS K7S5A (SiS 735 chipset, not KT133A) "officially" supports the Athlon XP, i.e. it's listed on AMD's site as being a recommended motherboard for use with those processors. I think the performance of the SiS735 with SDR is slightly better if not the same as that of the KT133A...

    which asus mobo??

The A7V266-E does not have onboard video. As far as the onboard CMEDIA chip vs. SBLive goes, I played around with the CMEDIA on an Iwill KK266 for a little bit, and I thought that the sound wasn't as good as the SBLive. However, there could have been driver issues which prevented me from...
