the pix 501 has the same interface... they can both also be configured threw the command line. the 506 has more 10 base t ports (im guessing for failover) and i think the 506 is more for vpns. check Here for a good comparison and what PIX is good for what

1.) Any A+ course they would have taught you to unplug the machine and use a wrist band to ground you?re self. Your self.... the PC will be fine if the person working on it is grounded because a pc that is turned off and is not plugged in has no electrical current going...
while the ram disc is much faster then the normal hard drive or a scsi hard drive but how much of the seti's work is hard drive dependent??? running a normal application off a ram disc will really speed it up but using a ram disc for seti is like running it off of a 15000 rpm hard scsi hard...
find out what you can get the pix-501 for....its a firewall so it it should give ya the best of both cisco IOS worlds routing and firewall...

you can copy dvds but you have to make rips of them. i.e. most movie dvds are 7gig+ discs, where these are 4.7gig so you have to take parts out of the movies to make them work. i'm gonna wait till the prices go down all over cause i want to make my own dvd movies (not pr0n but thats another idea...)
