Because it's only one gen removed, and I have a quiet cooler on it. When I feel like going through the rigamarole of installing a new cooler on a new card, I'll do it.

I want to build a new gaming rig, but I've been out of the loop for a while. I'd like to go fairly high end but within reason. So far, I've chosen the Intel i7-7700K as the CPU, but the motherboards are all over the place. I don't think I need one of the $500 ASUS Maximus VIII Extreme boards...

Any ATL people saddened that 99x is gone? :(

I've listened to 99x since I moved to Atlanta in '97. It's really sad to see it go, especially to be replaced by a top 40 station of all things. Atlanta needs another one of those like I need SLI 3DFX Voodoo cards.

Which Arctic Cooling VGA cooler for X1600?

I've used Arctic Cooling VGA coolers on quite a number of my vid cards and I just put together a middle of the road PC with an X1600 and the stupid cooler on it is a bit noisy so I wanted to slap on an AC cooler. Problem is, I can't seem to find which one is listed for the X1600 on their site...

Klipsch 4.1 to Logitech Z5500 worthwhile upgrade?

Yes, I emailed Klipsch and they said I could mail them in for a $90 repair job, or actually just send in part of the subwoofer. The problem is, many people said that they had to send it back several times for Klipsch to get it right. Also, they said it'd be about a 3-4 week time period...

I have the Klipsch 5.1 THX set, and while I'll agree that the sound quality is great, the build quality on Klipsch speakers is crap. Mine have died after about 3 years of use, and I bought them for $400 new in 2002. Just read some reviews here for an idea...

After digging thru some other threads, I found more info on getting a 'real' sound system. It appears that you could get an Onkyo system for about the same price as a Klipsch one. Is the sound quality better do you think? They have some in the $300 range and $400 which is about the same price...

Getting new setup, need some advice to finalize decision

If you're not planning on overclocking, I'd recommend getting as quiet of fans as possible. Check out Silenx.com and Zalmantech.com. They have some nice parts for silencing the PC. The power supply is also another source of noise, so you could look at something more quiet if you choose...

I have two sticks of Crucial Ballistix RAM, but one of them is bad, according to the tests I ran with Memtest86. So right now I'm just running 1 stick (512MB). Should I mess with memory timings at all to match what Anandtech used in there reviews of the mobo's, or wait to RMA my other stick...

problem flashing bios on MSI K8N Neo Platinum

I guess that's one cool thing about the Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939. When you enter BIOS, there's a utility in there that you can use to back up and flash your BIOS. All you need to do is put the new BIOS file on a floppy so that it can read to it. You can back up the BIOS to the floppy as well.
