First make sure it's enabled in your BIOS. Next go to the device manager under the IDE Controllers. Go to the channel to which each drive is attached and check under Properties, Advanced Settings, Transfer Mode. Should be set to "DMA if available."

I've got 3 ! in my Device manager...I know what is causing it. Need help getting rid of them.

Another route is to simply re-install XP now that the hardware is no longer present. You can do a re-install without losing any programs or data. It's easier than trying to figure out what's left over the registry.

"access is denied" error msg when copying files in Windows 98.

If you're copying from a DOS prompt, try attrib *.* to see if any system, hidden, archive, or read-only attributes are set. If so, then type attrib -r -a -s -h *.* to clear them all. If another program doesn't have the files locked, then this should take care of the problem.

weird things happenening in win xp

The simplest thing to try is to reinstall WinXP from your CD. It won't destroy any of your data or applications if you don't re-format the drive or anything. Afterword you can re-update from the Microsoft website. Hope this works for you.

cable modem keep on loosing signal every minute

Another possibility is a loose connection. I had the same problem, but it went away after pulling apart and re-assembling all the connections from the point where the cable comes into the house. I'm getting a lot fewer DNS errors now also.

Getting modem errors. Phone company wired my jacks wrong!
