Is it ok to use wheel bearing grease over thermal grease?

Wouldn't it make sense to just poor water on it every time the over heating alarm goes off.... I am sure the first time you do this you will never have to do it again! :beer: Cheers!!

creating partitions in Win2K

I tried to create the partition during setup but I was unable to create a partition on the main drive. Win2K would only allow me to create a partition equal to the full size of the disk. -Adam-

XP???? Why is it so bad?

Microsoft didn't make you do anything. If your machines were running fine with Windows 2000, then why did you install XP? If you had bothered to do a little research, you would have been able to compare the two OSs and see that if you are running 2000 and liking it, there probably isn't anything...

OS Problem? Win98SE Setup - "Error loading vga.drv"

I have had this problem before. It was the video card it's self. Might be the same thing with you... it might not be. You are using Win98 so anything is possable! ;)

i formatted my 120gb hd to ntfs, but now it says that there's 70mb used. ????

I just looked at the 256MB and there is 9MB missing.... says it is 247MB.... Here is the link to the drives I am testing **pop up info** -CSFM-

FAT32 only used 4kb more space that FAT A bug in the software... might have to see what the 256MB drives do... -CSFM- EDIT: I just looked at the 256MB and there is 9MB missing.... says it is 247MB.... Here is the link to the drives I am testing **pop up info**

Still doesn't explain why a USB thumb drive would have the option of formatting in FAT and FAT32 though... if FAT is FAT is FAT, then why bother? -CSFM- EDIT: also doesn't explain why the drive is 512MB and looses 17MB formatted as FAT.

I agree, all drive manafacturers should be made to change the way the market their drives. It is quite misleading and anoying when clients ring me asking what has happened to their new 120GB drive... "it's only letting me see 111GB" they say.... AHHHHHHHHHHHH -CSFM-

Do you do quick format or full format when you reinstall XP?

I was always under the impression the HDD shouldn't be full formatted unless you suspected bad sectors. I though it wasn't good for the drive to be constantly fully formatted, I have experienced bad sectors appearing in drives that have been fully formatted too many times. I always to a quick...

When my clients ring up and ask me about the software and how it works and what is the difference between FAT and FAT32 on the thumb drive, I like to have answers for them. Makes no difference if I format it and play around with the software and run a few experiments... also gives me something...

I have found that the 512MB thumb drive looses 17MB when formatted to FAT and only looses a further 4Kb when formatted to FAT32. Strange....... Running some tests now... I am going to see how long it takes to copy a file OK I am done, here are my results. I have copied a 97.7MB file across...

The 16MB wouldn't give me the option to format to FAT32, obviously there is not enough space on the drive to do this. Formatted as just FAT though I am still getting a lost of about 700Kb. Not much I suppose. What do you think would be the difference between me having one formatted as FAT...

Yeah I know that... but it's not very nice that 70MB is just lost forever. Imagine you only had a 128MB USB thumb drive... wouldn't be much use having the drive at all. The drive say's it's origional format is FAT I was just messing around with them the other day and formatted it to FAT32 and...

I was formatting a USB thumb drive the other day at work (testing these things out) and it lost a few MB formatting it to FAT32. It is a 512MB drive and it lost about 70MB due to formatting. That matters. -CSFM-

I suggest PS/2 extension cables to get the receiver unit close to where you will be using the mouse and keyboard. You can get 10mtr (or for those of you living in the dark ages 30 feet) extension cables. CSFM

Hard Drive -> WD or Maxtor

I am running both brands... System is running on a 60Gig Maxtor ATA100 Storage is a Western Digital 120Gig 8MB buffer I love the WD drive and I am still using Maxtors in most machines I build. Both will perform well, although if you're planning on storing large files, get the WD with an 8MB...

PS/2 to usb converter, does it exist?

click here I can recommend this brand. BAFO are quite good. I have used them in many different places, including server rooms with KVM switches connecting to the USB port. Don't know where is the USA they would be sold because I am in Australia... CSFM

XP or 2000? Simple question - not so simple answer perhaps...

Less than 1ghz and less than 256mb RAM => Windows 2000 ?????? LOL I have an XP1800 with 1Gig of RAM.... LOL I have and will only ever use Win2K for my own PC's at home until XP pulls up it's socks. I use XP at work and Win2K at work as well as Win2K SBS. Win2K is a hell of a lot better...

Wireless Keyboard and mouse (Logitech and Genuis)

I have the Genius RF Wireless mouse and keyboard at home. I just would like anyone else who has a similar setup to let me know how long your batteries are lasting in the mouse and keyboard. I have had mine for 2 and a half months now and I have had to replace the mouse batteries already...
