They give the rebate because they just released Extigy NX series. :)
YEs, extigy is same class as Audigy (based on USB1.1). And their latest NX series are in the same class as Audigy2 (Based on USB2.0)
Why don't you count NetGear mr314 in? Good enough you know..
Take a look at this Comparison.
Sorry it's a Google Cache. Last time I tried, the website won't open.

I don't mean to post a duplicate thread, but at first I really don't know which forums should this subject belongs to. So I post it here and the General Hardware forum. I think this subject could be considered as "Highly Technical" since not many ComputerUser done this before.
One interesting...
I am using IBM Travelstar 40gnx 40Gb @ 5400rpm. I believe that is the fastest laptop HDD so far according to this benchmark..
Thanks for the replies so far. Please keep the comments coming as I believe It could help other members too in the future.
I used to work with one powerful desktop for all my computing needs. But due to a lot of field-trip study, I decided to switch for a laptop.
So far I didn't feel any significant speed decrease switching from AthlonXP 2Ghz -to-> Mobile Pentium 4 1.9Ghz; But I really miss the fast transfer rate...
For Win2k: 256Mb is enough
For WinXP:
I'll vote for 512!
Trust me... peace of mind...
If you think you're gonna install multiple OS (Virtual PCs), crank it up to 1,024Mb.
Once I read from a site that says 16k performs better (I set mine to it, and no performance problem so far). But I forgot what the site is, he actually compare and benchmarked all the results. I'll post a follow up once I found it back..

So I guess I'll post the queries to a more appropriate "Peripheral" or "Highly Technical" topic. :)
Whoever interested in the...
Less spin = less power consumption .. makes sense...
But why the benchmark said it wrote slower @ 128k random write? really confuses me...
so what's the 16Mb cache good for if the performance is still lagging behind?
inAccurate benchmark -or- excessive buffer design?
So how's your 40gnx performance? Is it good as advertised? Noisy level?
Anyone got bad review for the IBM 40gnx?
Just grab one from googlegear few hours ago, if somebody verify that it is as bad as their deskstar (I experienced it myself 5times!!), then I'll cancel the order and grab this deal...
Price increase to $163... But still HOT compared to other seller.
Now, Anyone tried this drive yet? What do you think of it?
I hope it's not as bad as its Desktop well-known "DeathStar" cousin.
I ship my Deskstar back and forth to IBM 5 times!! Asking for replacement, due to mechanical error.
Okay, I am very confused now..
I am going to try Intel's 2.53Ghz P4, since Anand claims that it currently outperform the AMD AthlonXP series.
I would be glad if somebody could enlighten me by answering several of my queries about the p4 CPU..
