Comcast Users - Not getting advertised download speeds?

It doesn't take long for the savings you make on not renting a cable modem to pay for the cost of buying the exact same modem they would rent you. I bought a motorola cable modem for ~30$ after rebate and it was the exact same model as the rented one I replaced. The only way you could tell them...

    gas pumps

I would avoid going back to those stations ever and if I knew how report them. Some gas stations will cheat and run their pumps so that they read higher than the actual amount of gas pumped into the car. with a 17.2 gallon tank its probably possible to put close to 18 gallons in from bone try to...

    Shared internet speed problem

It's also possible you are maxing out your upload capacity. Since tcp transmitions require an ACK to be sent for every packed received swamping the upload can greatly delay the ack response and end up slowing down your download speed even tho it's no where near maxed out. Try limiting the max...

42" LCD TV $749 Olevia no rebates Newegg

My biggest problem with the 3xx series from Olevia and pretty much all HD Monitors I've seen is the lack of inputs. 1- HDMI 1- Component 1- VGA which can be used as component with an adaptor cable 1- S video or composite This just plain isn't enough inputs for even a moderate setup...

    Olevia 37" LCD TV $547 + ship @ Outpost/Frys.com

The 537h does have 1:1 pixel mapping and a QAM tuner. The 1:1 is one of the zoom options available. I've also hooked up the TV to the cable feed and picked up sd and hd channels with the QAM tuner from Comcast in my area. Spending 150+ bucks on an external tuner seems a little silly since you...

$100 instant rebate off in-store purchases of Toshiba HD DVD players. Also included are 5 free HD DVDs.

as long as retailers don't raise the price before the instant rebate to just make more money this should make for some really good deals on these players. 200 or less is a very good deal on these and something I'll probably jump on since I was looking at getting a new upscaling dvd player it's...

Does it REALLY matter what type of HDMI cables i buy?

www.monoprice.com has a good selection and price and can get anything from cheap to highest quality in most any length you want. In most cases for short lengths cheap cables should be fine. Long runs or in wall you want to make sure the cable is going to handle that.

Viewsonic N3250W 32" HDTV Widescreen LCD TV (Refurbished)

500 bucks for a 32 inch HD LCD tv is pretty much bottom end at this point. You aren't really going to have alot of options. Even moving up to 600 your primarily going to be looking at lesser known newer brands. Even with that said I'd still skip this deal and wait for an olevia 232 or...

Viewsonic N3250W 32" HDTV Widescreen LCD TV (Refurbished)

It's a cheap monitor but it has some drawbacks IMO. 1) no integrated HD tuner. Has a SD tuner but will require an external tuner, Cable box, sat box etc to handle HD. I know this won't matter to some and I don't even use the HD tuner in my tv but IMO it's always nice to have. 2) Major lack...

Just bought newegg I-Inc 32" TV for $436 AR delivered HDMI tons of inputs...

I wouldn't exactly call 1 hdmi, 1 vga, 1 Component, 1 s video and 1 composite alot of inputs. It's definitely a pretty inexpensive price, especially with a built in tuner but it's also a brand I've never heard of. I wasn't able to find anything about in AVSforum either. Hope it works out well...

Syntax Olevia 37" LCD HDTV $799 w/Free Shipping at Newegg

QAM isn't in the specs but everything I've read says it's there. It might be related to the fact that it can be hit or miss for no real apparent reason. From what I understand the standards in the states are somewhat loose and cable companies do things slightly differently from one to the next...

    4GB RAM useable? beneficial?

Adobe actually has a really good doc about this for photoshop cs 2. http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=320005 4gb or more with a 64 bit os can still benifit a 32 bit program even if it can't directly access more than 4gb of ram.

Wii available (toys r us online)

wii availablilty seems to depend on your area. Here in the portland area they are still pretty scarce. They can be found but sell out quickly. Friend got one about 2 weeks back. Is it a bad thing that Windows, OSX and *nix all use the x86 architecture?

Ok I oversimplified it a bit but with transistor counts scaling the way they are x86 compatibility is worth the decreasing cost.

Is it a bad thing that Windows, OSX and *nix all use the x86 architecture?

Now a days the ISA is mainly just another layer of abstraction. Back in the day each chip would have it's ISA and it would pretty directly represent what the chip was capable of. The downside obviously was pretty limited compatability. Any modern processor, even risc chips like the PPC, use...

    Power PC

Honestly i think the big reason is licensing. IBM is willing to sell the license for the processor designs to Microsoft etc so that they can do die shrinks and control production and cost on thier own. Microsoft got bit in the rear by intel last time since intel wasn't willing to license the p3...

Nintendo Wii 3rd Party Component Cables

Is it possible for HD platters to be remagnetized with a higher capacity?

I beleive it was seagate who relatively rescently tried to do 5 1/4 hds again with thier bigfoot line. As far as i know they performed pretty poorly, largely due to slow seek time from the large disk, and didn't off that much more capacity at the price point. As far as i know they stopped...

Letterbox movies on a 16:9 TV? DVD and Bluray HDMI output, WHY?!?!?!

That wouldn't work either. The simple fact of the matter is that there are a large variety of aspect ratios for hd and no TV is going to be able to fit them all. A projector isn't as noticable as say an lcd tv because it has better black levels so you don't get the grey bars. The more I learn...

    DVR (tuner) for the computer?

I'm pretty sure the person you talked to at cox had no clue what they where talking about. A remote pretty much has to be IR. The only other possiblity would be some radio frequency. DVR (tuner) for the computer?

From what I've seen there are no consumer level cards able to handle capturing component hd, or dvi/hdmi for that matter. The reason seems to be these are uncompressed signals so the cards would need to handle real time compression of 720p or 1080i which is still a pretty difficult task. When...

    Can the airplane take off?

See this is why your wrong. A plain with a chain attached wouldn't be able to move forward and wouldn't generate any lift. That is accurate. The problem is the conveyor belt has no way of applying that kind of force to the plane since the wheels on the plane are free spinning like the wheels on...
  33. K

    Can the airplane take off?

For the most part yes. Think of the plane as a car with the transmition in neutral. There is little resistance to the car rolling with it in neutral and the wheels would spin freely.
  34. K

    Can the airplane take off?

Thats the thing. The wheels aren't what is generating the forward motion it's the jet engines. It will still be moving threw the air and will still generat lift.
  35. K

    Can the airplane take off?

Nothing because the plane doesn't use the wheels to generate forward motion. It just means the wheels are spinning faster because the plane is moving twice as fast relative to the belt but the plane still moving forward relative to someone standing on the ground next to the belt.
  36. K

    Can the airplane take off?

No it's accurate to say that they don't depend on the wheels for movement. The fact that you can use skys, or floats or what ever just proves that. The wheels on a plane are like the wheels on a roller skate. They are not hooked up to any motor and can not move the plane forward on thier own...
  37. K

    Can the airplane take off?

You don't typically but it doesn't matter because the theoretical plane wouldn't be motionless =)
  38. K

    Can the airplane take off?

That question doesn't make sense. A car which moves it's self foward using the wheels would be stationary relative to the ground if the conveyor was moving in the opposite direction at the same speed as the car is according to the speedometer. This is actually how they do a number of things on...

your definitely going to want more than 512 mbs of ram and you'll probably want to go dual channel. A nice dual channel 1gb kit min, i'd recommend a 2gb dual channel kit tho.
