What was the before rebate price on the Kingston memory from Fry's? Was it an advertised special? I'm tempted to go down and grab a couple sticks if the before rebate price isn't too high.

on a side note, this thread made me think about undervolting so i decided to see how low my locked fry's combo barton would run at 3200xp level. sure enough, it's running right now with 1.6 volts, that's even less than it's default. i wonder how low i can drop it tho ;)
got a combo last night @ burbank. locked chip but so far, i have it running 2.48ghz with 1.85 volts. i know it will go higher but i think i'm at the limit with my mb/ram doing 225mhz fsb.
personally....i just get the iron out and put a sheet of paper in between. the iron heats it up mighty quick, within 5 secs and voila....peels off like a dirty diaper from a baby's butt. :evil:
i just got some twinmos pc 3200.....so as of now, i'm running 2 x 256mb sticks in dual channel mode. that made a big difference over just running 256....win xp is such a mem hog. i guess i'll just hold off on the barton until it drops more....i just have the upgrade itches once in a while. ;)

FYI.....the part number starts with VS which stands for their VALUE SELECT line. I suppose that would be comparable to Mushkin BASIC or regular Kingston. Still a good deal for 1 gig nonetheless.

great price on buffalo btw. my stick of buffalo i got from newegg runs 2-3-3-8 @ 216mhz on 2.6 volts. i tried higher voltages but it didn't seem to make a diff. hope this is useful for someone.....i'm itching to order another stick of 256 to run in dual channel.

my sister's toshiba satellite laptop needs to have the mb replaced. it's a p3 700 so about 2 years old or so. the mb runs almost 500 to replace. i was going to try and pickup a used or pulled mb and do the job myself. i'm savvy with desktops but i've never messed around with a laptop before...
