    Viewing website on personal server...

I don't think that's his problem -- a simple fix to this is to put your domain name in your HOSTS file, and have it pointed to your server's internal IP

im online, but web pages wont load.

IF you have a DSL/cable modem, try power cycling it -- sometimes the modems lose synchrinzation with the ISP.

    ip address confusion

Someone might be on a load-balanced connection, so sometimes their requests and stuff go out through another pipe, which has a different address. Why'd you ask? There are other reasons this may happen.

Think you've got a home network? Check this out!

It'd be "better" if the wiring wasn't so ass-sloppy -- my lab is quite nice and clean. :) My fiancee bitches if it isn't.

    SC420 Jumbo Frames?

That's a Broadcom Gigabit adapter, right? (trying to remember my SC420) Do you have Broadcom Advanced Control Suite 2 installed? That might let you, although I can't see an option for my Dell Latitude's onboard gigabit.

    Active Directory confusion?

You're regaining your sanity? Then you're not working with AD enough :) j/k. Active Directory isn't bad at all once you learn how it operates. There's several books I can recommend, but I like the O'reilly series myself.

    Fileserver Hardware Requirements?

It's not gunna fly, but it'll get the job done.

    Active Directory confusion?

There's only one instance of AD, you're just adding computers who can contribute/administer the database when making multiple domain controllers. :)

IP Address Questions With Smoothwall or IPCop Router

You want one-to-one NAT. There are firewalls that exist which can map static IPs to machines behind the firewall. The only caveat is, of course, the firewall will have to have an IP.

    Replacement for my IPCop box?

Nice! Something like those will work great. Anyone else have any suggestions? I heard Netscreen makes nice ones. I only have experience with Snapgear.

    Replacement for my IPCop box?

I'm moving out in July and was given a Cisco 2611 that I'll be using as my router at home -- and I'll have DSL with 5 static IPs at home that I can use. I have 3 servers that I'd like to have static IPs (Or at least appear as if they do). Right now though, I have an IPCop machine as my...

    Networking Career Advice

The bar has been raised greatly in terms of what it takes to be considered for a job. It used to be the case where a degree wasn't really that important, but rather it was all about experience, and certs was just gravy... Now it seems people want a degree or equiv experience. I just...

Need recommendations on router/switches for 50 user network

Pick up a pair of Allied Telesyn AT-8326GB switches, and get a Cisco 828 Router/modem. That oughta start you off, and for less than $1000. :) If you don't want a built-in SDSL modem, get the Cisco 831 router instead. The Allied Telesyn switch I mentioned above is managed, has 24 10/100...

SCORCHING HOT MIR on Netgear Products (was Fry's is comming to Chicago!!)

They're gunna stop the theme scheming for future stores (At the very most, they'll have more subtle themes like the Downers Grove store) because of the money involved.

SCORCHING HOT MIR on Netgear Products (was Fry's is comming to Chicago!!)

There are plans to get at least 4 more Fry's in the Chicagoland area in the not too distant future. I am assuming one will be in Chicago-proper; that's where I live anyway. :)

SCORCHING HOT MIR on Netgear Products (was Fry's is comming to Chicago!!)

By the way, it's not 200,000 square feet, it's actually 180,000. :) Fry's going to have one hell of a grand opening; with Randy Fry and everyone else coming up. Many of the employees came from Texas stores, and are a pleasure to work with. hehe But remember that many are also new hires, like...

Resetting/password recovery for BayStack 350F-HD switch

I bought this off eBay -- I tried the NetICs deal that I've found for other BayStacks and that didn't work. The seller doesn't know the password, and I don't want a friggin' dumb switch. If I wanted that, I woulda bought a Netgear or somethingfor cheaper. Anyway, here's what's on top at the...

    Router or Linux Gateway?

It's just a personal preference, for those who can't bear to ditch their old computer parts (or in my case, can't get anyone to buy them). And yes, I am aware of the snort vulnerabilities (now, heh)
  31. B

    Router or Linux Gateway?

That's highly dependant though -- like for my smoothwall box, I'm utilizing IDS and proxying; RAM usage is in the 90% usage. And I have 128M of it!

You can write a script to do that. As for exactly how... You'll have to hit it up on TechNet or MSDN or something.

    intrAnet web hosting

Yep it can, using IIS 5. If you wanna set up an intranet network and be overly complex and geeky, install a DNS server on the serverbox and throw an A-record in there pointing to the webserver's internal IP and you can make the domain name anything you want. Hehe

    miniPCI card

If the antennae are built into the Mini-PCI card, then I'd have to say probably not. If the Inspiron has a link to an antenna on the side of the screen or something, then it's possible. I'd do the Mini-PCI card for convienence's sake. The difference can't be that great.
