What do you think is better? 2004/5 Mazdaspeed MX-5 or S2000?

Now if I knew how to post pics ... anyway, I went with a MY 2005 black-on-black S2k, 35k miles. Drove it from Chicago to NoVA, doing 37 mpg on the first leg of the trip (Indiana/Ohio toll road). Towards the end it went down to about 31 mpg. My biggest mistake so far: I forgot the sunscreen :D...

What's the best MPG you've ever managed?

My recently deceased 2000 VW Passat Wagon (1.8T): best ever 35 mpg HWY, avarage 31 HWY, city with short trips 2 miles a trip down to 22 mpg. Back in Germany the best I did was 5.4 l/100km on pure biodiesel (canola based) with a 1999 VW Golf Wagon TDI (PD). Too early for me to get a calculatur...

Uninstalled XP SP3 - seems to have corrupted Outlook .PST

Yeah, and there is always a guy named "Murphy" involved, isn't he? But "chkdsk" was the first thing I did, and it didn't find any errors, and ScanPST still doesn't do the whole scan. Are there any more competent scan&repair programs out there?

What no one seems to remember is that AMD64 doubled the number of available General Purpose and SSE(2) registers for processors, which is only accessible in the processor's Long Mode (64 bit prog running on a 64 bit OS). If I remember correctly this is the reason why 64 bit progs run faster...

Vista rant - transfering files to USB thumb drive

Go to the "Manual Driver Install" dialog and point Vista to "C:\Windows\System32" (or wherever your Vista copy happens to sit). You'll need to do this for every one of the three times a driver install dialog shows up, then you're good to go.

Do you create a seperate partition for your OS?

I've used different partitions for OS and data since DOS 5.0. My standard setup used to be 4 GB OS, rest data (including games). I've changed that now to 4 GB Win XP and rest Vista x64 on my 36 GB Raptor and the data on two RAID 1 arrays on a dedicated file server.

trouble multitasking with c2d

One other thing: Did you do a complete reinstall of XP when you moved to c2d or did you just pop in your old system? If you did the latter, I'd think that wouold be the source of the issue.

Whats the fastest CPU anyone has ever seen that didn't require a heatsink or fan ?

I had a Slot-1 Covington Celeron-300 (the one without L2 Cache) running with no heatsink at all. I could jack it up to around 445 MHz, but you couldn't get near the thing with your fingers then. I used it later on to test mainboards for a while, until Slot 1 boards became too dated to be any good.

Upgrade for son's computer

You may want to look into getting a nice 7800GT or 7900GT on ebay or an ATI card of that level. I agree with everyone else that for gaming this is where you get the best bang for your buck. So what does you wife's computer look like? 486 DX/2-66? :)

I assigned a NIC an IP manually, but it keeps saying "acquiring network address"

Dimkaumd, btw: FAT32 is a way for operating systems to partition a DISK. Has nothing to do with RAM. Any 32bit Operating System using a 32 bit operating mode on the CPU will be able to address 32 bit (in theory, in practice you will "see" less). Windows XP x64 already is not limited to that...

Should I overclock AMD 64 Winchester using nTune?

I tried nTune and it can give you a ballpark area for a stable o/c for PCIe and RAM timings. I couldn't get it do even a halfway decent "FSB" overclock on my (as of today) former Winnie 3000+. Without trouble I got it to o/c about 40%, nTune reported a max of 11%. I think they still need to work...
