just realized that dma wasnt enabled..but even after dma is enabled, the speed jumped from 1.9x-2.0x which isnt much of a difference..the dvd rom is on a separate ide cable from the hd:

and no..the media is not dirty, scratched..

i just finished putting together my computer....i got everything connected(and it all seems like its working fine) except the fact that the floopy drive is not working..everytime the computer is restarted it keeps giving me the error: floppy drive failed (40)
