Need Help with an Cisco Access List..

Garion - Why do you despise them? Apart from arcane sytax (which I hate as well) I've found them to be one of the things that cisco got very right in IOS, they're useful for everything, so much so that other router vendors haven't bettered it.

An ISP has to have at least 2 in 2 different locations (or at least on 2 different subnets) to get an address allocation approved, at least that's how we do it in Europe.

Question on FTP Server thru NAT on a cisco router

Just set up a static translation for the inside box. If your cable modem provide is doing DHCP then you'll have to change it regularly otherwise it will just work. (Providing you don't block it with an access list).

Theory Question (osi model)

It's fragmentation for IP. Segmentation as in SAR is an ATM thing where you take lovely variable length packets and break them up into horrible fixed length cells, (Segmentation) which have to be put back together at the boundary of the evil ATM network (re-assembly).

cisco 806 router ... clock wrong, can't fix!!

The clock rate command is used to set the clocking on serial interfaces at the DCE end of the link. Guyver01 wants to set the system clock.

Could people please try to stop using phrases such as class A, class B and class C, they haven't been relevant for a long time and they confuse people. IP networking is now classless even cisco acknowledged this by changing the default behaviour of most aspects of IOS from classful to classless.

So where do you guys shop for networking gear?

Nutz, try the various catalogues. For home use I use global direct or action. For work stuff, well I work for a networking reseller so it's not an issue. For cisco memory, flash etc try crucial or Kingston. I'm in the UK as well.

IP/TCP and DHCP probs?

Did you check your basic connectivity when you hard coded the IP addresses. Could you ping the default gateway you set? Could the workstations ping each other? Did you have DNS servers configured? Could you ping those? Apologies if this approach is too simplistic.

Broadban internet access at my school, anyone know what the "Office Box" provided by ntl is?

It's an SDH mux which is taking in the 34mb trunk and giving you a 2mb tributary for your service. This 2Mb will be mapped back across the network into an ntl; access router.

How wide is the rack? What provision do you have for vertical cable management? Personally I would locate a patch panel next to a switch, otherwise your vertical cable management becomes a nightmare.

Where can I download Cisco IOS for my cisco 2500 ?

IOS 12.2 is the latest, but you'll need to make sure you have enough flash to store the image on and enough RAM to run the image. IOS gets bigger with each new release on a feature set by feature set basis.

You should make the serial interface a nat outside one, otherwise it won't know how to react to packets which come into it destied for nat addresses. You may not have traffic coming in to that interface doing that but try it to see if it helps.

The firewall feature set is part of IOS, it is what they call a monolithic code base. The Firewall feature set won't do anything by itself. You need to configure some context based access lists to suit your needs. It's quite a large subject to cover. I'd suggest reading the docs on the web site...
