For a laptop, go with the + series. They were designed for mobile use and use lower voltages (you have to check for compatibility with your system) along with having power management features.

CDRW BURSTS out tray with NO appparent REASON!

It could also be a power problem. I've seen some machines with the HD and floppy drive on the same power cable and the FD would go off once in a while when the HD was being accessed. Try putting it on it's own power line (no other devices hooked up to it) and see what it does.

what about top and side vents??

Regarding the side fans, sometimes they actually will disturb the air flow through the case. You have to try it out and see what the temps are like, or do a smoke test to see the air flow. Some cases actually have a duct for the side fan (I forgot the company). I think that's a cool idea.

These disks are fine for their rated speed (up to 32x). In both my lite-on drives (2410b and 5224s), you will get successful burns but alot of c2 (correctable) errors (several 1000's usually). On the other hand, I've burned 48x fuji cdr's at 48x and 52x with fewer than 100 c2 errors per disk.

Can you use the power switch on the PS to turn on the computer?

Are Slot fans any good?

I'm not surprised at the change in the free shipping policy at Onvia -- they laid off roughly 50% of their workforce at the end of December 2000. Obviously they needed to cut costs and charging for shipping was one of the more viable ways.

Maybe you are connecting the plug incorrectly? Yes, you can get a 3-pin to 4-pin molex adapter. The cheapest solution would be to fish your manual out and see if there are jumpers or switches to enable or disable the fan headers. Also, you may just have to look through each of your BIOS menus...

Hey, whats too high on temp. for a p3?

It also depends on what you do. My 650 oc/ed to 866 heats up to about 60C when I do processor intensive stuff, but usually stays in the 40C range. If you can run like 3dMark and log your temperatures, it'll give you a better idea of what the average temperature of your cpu will be.

If you have fans blowing in only, what you'll have is air exiting your case through any crevice, vent, etc.. If you have fans blowing out only, you'll be sucking air through the vents, slits, etc.. The principle works both ways since there is no build up or loss of air inside your case...
