How to run a VPN for just a certain application safely ?

Per application routing takes time/effort. I went with a handful of geographically-specific ssids vlan-tagged to different vpn endpoints to make life easier for those using my home network.

At 10w, you should have no issue passively cooling that processor if you want to get rid of the fan.

Looking for a gaming laptop - Custom build or pre-built?

I'm pretty happy with the sager 7335 I snagged off ebay, upgraded ram/ssd and it's perfect for gaming when I get the chance, can be easily upgraded / worked on (a major plus if you're going warranty-free), and didn't break the bank.

NUC recommendations

If you end up getting the i5 one and tire with the noisy fan (I noticed a significant noise floor difference between my 4250 nuc and my 3217 nuc), akasa makes a passive case which allows you to have 2x 2.5" hdd's :)

330W Power Brick Solution for SFF

Any luck with this? I'm using a x51 to power my sub-3L gaming system (3770k/gtx670 4gb), but if I could go with a pico on the mobo and directly step down brick power to the 2x 6pin PCIe using a single ~12A buck, that'd save me a ton of space. Mods: sorry for the necro, don't see too much...

Question on ATX12V 4-pin connector amperage requirements (PSU modding).

It turns out that the MOSFETs on the motherboard have a wide range of VDC input acceptance, so I didn't even need the buck stepdown. The 6 MOSFETs on the Z77e-itx converted it directly from 19VDC to 5VDC (and then the VRM subsequently converted from 5VDC to whatever was specified by the CPU)...

mini-ITX that's near-silent and allows 3.5" HD?

Yes, indeedy, advice me on a w/c setup for my rig

Anyone ever run two vid cards in a parallel loop instead of serial to prevent a thermal differential between the cards? You'd just have to calculate the tubing cross-section to be appropriate to maintain good flow characteristics.

If you ever re-do your lawn, you can always bury finned pipes a couple feet below the ground and run a communal water loop through there to put computer heat into the ground. Better yet, put it under your driveway and you won't have to shovel all winter :p

heck, I just RMA'd a 1TB WD Green (WD10EACS - 16mb cache) and got a brand new WD10EADS - 32mb cache in return! Hope it doesn't mess with the Raid 5 array, lol.

i have one G2R5 and one G2C1... I've got the retail mounted on the plate and unless I can find another one someone doesn't need, i'm just going to double-sided tape the OEM one to the retail one :D

I have a brand new WD Green 1.5TB, been running only 4 hours and

I've had an average failure rate of 20% on my 1tb WD Greens (waiting for the latest to come back from RMA right now)... def. glad RAID6 is around.

Is there any consensus 'king' of cases right now?

snagged an Antec 1200 + CP-850 PSU at newegg for 250 shipped... pretty nice deal :D like Jen, I've always been a fan of cubes -- good places to hide the condenser/evap without cluttering your mobo/drives. I'll move that way if I go back to a homebrew PC next year (sticking w/ plain jane water...
