after 3 days with a D6U T40

I just got a D6U from IBM.com (1.4, SXGA+, M8-32, 40GB-5400rpm). A friend brought it to Vancouver from the US and shipped it to me ¡V total cost $2855 cdn. The D6U is not available in canada and neither is the 58U so to get a SXGA+ screen I would have had to buy at least a 96U which would be...

transfer of a T40 warranty?

another question......one option to acquire a T40 would be to have a friend buy one from ibm.com for me (i am in canada and as recounted in many threads T40's, really all laptops, are insanely more expensive here). I am pretty sure the warranty is international so i could have the machine...

Poll: Was the extra few hundred dollars for your T40 worth it?

Spooky do you find in any way that the 1.3 PM is a little slow for everyday use? I keep considering the 58U but keep wondering if i am spending too much on a soon to be obsoleted processor and will regret it.

well i am no expert but i have to figure that if you are using it at full steam power gating is for nought....and keep in mind that they have to engineer a lappy's heat mgt assuming that its plugged in and running full power. If a GFgo 5600 or M10 sheds too much heat they may have some trouble...

Ti200 gainward, Visiontek, PNY or CPU bottlenecked?

An additional issue to consider (although it may be irrelevant to you) is that i belive the visiontek is one of the few Ti200 without a DVI port. While you may not have a LCD panel now its a useful feature to consider for the future especially if you are the type to always be swapping parts...

your first problem is that a standard NTSC television is capable of displaying at maximum a 480i or interlaced lines image. Only a display monitor with HDTV (ATSC) capabilty such as 720progessive or 1080interlaced can show a larger windows desktop

well rock, i certainly am with you on gaming with at LCD flat panel .....i love my planar PV174. However that being said, for gaming it was a quality step down from my $300 KDS 19" that i bought 3 years ago. Personally i beleive that your brain compensates for the ghosting that definetly exists...

I think you need to consider you planned upgrade path. If you get a ti4600 you will have a card that is far more powerful than your flat panel is capable of displaying. between the max 1024 resolution and the max pixel response time of the latest panels which limit effective frames per second...

Recognizing that i will likely upgrade with the next generation (maybe two gens) of flat panels i went with the PV174 which as Dre above points out can be had at the $600 level - great panel, no regrets.

17" LCDs, 1:25 aspect ratio, and DVI

1) for desktops panel, yes. You have to get up into 19"+ panels before you get into 1600x1200 res. 2) 1280x1024 is a standard resolution supported by most (all?) video cards so everything looks fine. Only issue is with games that do not support 1280x1024 resolution. LCD panels are optimized...

CS, starcraft is one thing but you have to wonder about the business sense of any game designer not taking 1280x1024 rez into consideration with any recent game considering that is the std. rez of the 17-19" class of LCD panels and the overall growth in flat panels.

$0.02 worth here: I got a damn fine 17.4 inch LCD for $600 and while i am the first to admit it is not as nice for gaming as the 19" CRT that it replaced, that I think i traded off maybe 2-3% of "capability" with the "ghosting". I have adapted fairly well to the effect. As i said somewhere else...

I have 5 crystal orbs bolted to the back of my LCD. That combined with the 120mm blowhole provide just enough aircooling to get the response time below 15 ms. Ghosting....bah! what ghosting! b

I think his answer really was "i havent a clue". I can't speak to the problem but do you know someone with a DVI card you could borrow to test. This may isolate whether the card is the issue or the panel. I have the same card and it played a number of Q3A games on a Planar 174 at 1024x768 easily...

Tummy, somewhere above, Omer indicated a command for Q3a based games \com_maxfps "xx" where xx = whatever max fps you want set. This works with Q3a and Q3a mods...not sure with tweaked engine games like RtCW and MOH:AA
