Booting in DOS and sharing folders

I really doubt that you can boot from a dos disk and do file sharing. You might be able to boot from a live Linux CD which you setup to automatically mount and share out all the drives. Here's a list o links

App to limit upload?

My answers always seem to be "well if you use linux...", but yeah: If you use linux, you can get all the graphs you'll ever want from MRTG. Here's an example of my graphs. As far as limiting upload, check out LARTC, but it might be a bit more than you want.

Cat 5e will do Gigabit. Cat 6 will do gigabit, but over greater distances with more tolerances. I'm not too sure on specifics, but that's the general difference

not quite sure what you mean by "in real time", but a standard windows share opened on the Win2k box and then Samba running on linux should work just fine.

Realtek card problems. help!

I remember a few years ago my brother and I had the exact same issue a few years ago on a thinnet connection transfering files. I think that time it was a driver bug (with a realtek), but I've also seen it recently (on a bad cat 5 cable) with other computers. It's probably you have a bad cable...

Max number of people on server without lagg?

you should be able to host I'm guessing around 30 people or so. It entirely depends on the game though. From what I've read UT2k3 now take about 20k/sec or so for each user, while some games like CS take only 5-10k/sec. Really the best thing would just be to set it up with a reasonable number...

Consumer-friendly registrars?

I'm using http://jumpdomain.com/ and from what I've read, they're pretty friendly. Actually, anything on tucow's opensrs network is pretty consumer-friendly from what I hear.

Network Newbie here... help!

be carefull what you're doing if you're not entirelly sure. It is possible for you to fudge up the network and pretty soon you'll have some not so happy principles asking why're your some sort of evil hacker messing with the network. True it might not happen, but you're better safe than sorry.

most likely you have added a router into your network. Just look at the router configuration and open/forward port 21 (ftp) to the computer with the server

Irregular network performance

as you seem to suggest yourself, it's probably a cable problem. See if you can't run a wire between the 2 computers not going through the wall (like move the 2 computers into the same room or something) and test again.

Linksys or 3Com Switch???

Looking for DSL router with bidirectional printer server

AFAIK no network printer of any sort by any sharing method is bi-directional. At least in my experience with a few different ones I've always had to turn of bi-di support of it to work at all.

yeah, it's feasable and you can do it, but I don't seem much of an advantage. Transfers from the servers to the firewall will be faster, but I'm pretty sure your internet upload will be the limiting factor no matter what. With the multi-NIC solution you can have theoretically 500-600mbps...
