Yup right click on an empty space on the taskbar, click properties and uncheck "use personalized menus", in work, excel, et al. it is a little different but I believe it carries the same name or at least a similar name/description. dc

I believe there is a proggy from intel that will do this, also freakishly compaq has good driver support, take a gander at what they have there. Also make sure speedstep or whatever is enabled in the bios. Compaqs always come with custom drivers and stuff, thats what you'll need to find. Good...

lsass.exe and recovery console problem

Whats a legal W98 CD?

I do not believe they are legal as ms licenses them to PB for distribution in new PCs. They are AFAIK licensed ONLY for PB Pcs. I've never heard of MS endorsing the transfer from one PC to another. The for distribution only with a new pc is marginally legal, as one could argue that you are not...

Why is my Windows XP update not working with IE6

Is this a legit retail version? or are you using the 'FCKGW-..." key? Rumor is they shut that key off for windows update. There are instructions in the KB for fixing such issues as well best to start there if you are using a legit copy. dc

depends on the drives support, I know my plextor has options for such things. also if its making the whole thing studder you may want to think about moving it to its own ide header, or simply getting a better cdrom. But as for 3rd party software, I did see one once but it tended to lock up...

Sudden system restart when using cpu cooling

How to Control Power Management in Mandrake 8.1

Mandrake by default, save for laptop installs, will NOT enable powermanagement, what it will do is blank the screen, this however affects nothing but the videocard in terms of performance. Obviously if its blanked the screen the videocard is idle no? you can change this setting but I forget how...

Last I saw this done the executable itself needed to be editted. There are programs out there but I can't remember. In my experience it was difficult to perfect and even worse to ditribute, you need to write files using runonce test and distribute. Good luck dc

NTLDR is missing error, Windows 2000/Mandrake

You might want to try fdisk /mbr and then the above methods. This clears the mbr IIRC, and you'll need to rewrite it later. I know this function exists in win98 fdisk versions I am unsure if it exists anywhere else and it is undocumented. In fact I was just looking for a win98 boot disk to do...

Correct me if I'm wrong but reiser seems to be goig the way of the OS/390, a gigantic relational database type Layout. Don't get me wrong, I like reiser, I still use it in a lot of boxen, I just think the 'new direction' is idealistic rubbish, seems to want to 'shake the foundations of linux'...

I have seen some benches on ext_2_, reiser, and XFS. It would seem that ext is faster than Fat32, reiser is extremely to a little faster than ext2 and XFS is faster than reiser. I have heard the corruption complaint about XFS a couple times but it all seems to pertain to power failure...

Ok so I have a creator 3d series3 /dev/ffb0 and an Elite 3d m3 /dev/afb0. I am havinf trouble getting a dual display to work on them, I have read about edditing Xservers and whatnot but so far I just get a really nasty overwritten display and then the Xserver gives up (I think) and it all clears...
