cheaper is always better to me! but i think i'd be happy anywhere within the $90-$130 range. i don't mind spending a little more to save on electricity use.
thanks guys. the power consumption looks considerably lower with a 4770, the 4850 is cheaper, but looks like the 4770 would consume 55watts less power!
any suggestions one way or the other?

totally not true. I'm running a samsung syncmaster 170mp (analogue) on a visiontek ti4600, and my mom has a sony (don't remember the model) on a ati AIW 7500, and mine is definately better. I think generally DVI should look better, but unfortunately you just have to see b4 you assume.

unclebud:
the memorex i got were taiyo yuden, so says cd-r identifier. my facts are right. besides you just have to know sony packages their discs (obviously the easiest way is to see where they are manufactured). i don't know why you assume that i am tc'ing. FYI for anyone in manhattan, the...
I would still go with the ECS K7S5A from new egg for $60. you get the option of ddr & built in sound & nic. plus it supports higher processor speeds. if you ever do decide to go ddr, your performance will be much better
if you need a 845D board soon, you should automatically rule out ABIT, they are always the last one's out, for they try to make sure that their boards are 100% stable (and fairly OC-able).
In my experience I have only used ASUS, ABIT, & Intel Motherboards. I have NEVER had any problems. I...
