If you're going to be using ESX then you also need to consider licensing costs - which are per processor. I suspect you meant the free version of ESXi though if it's for work then use a 'real' server, ie: dual xeon, redundant power, hot swap sas drives, etc

Athlon voltage question - which PSU rail is used?

how can you find out for sure? this guy over at silentpcreview.com tested his A7N8X-DLX and found it using only 1A on the 12v rail.. http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=8981 I had earlier asked what rail the A7N8X-X used for cpu regulation and everyone said it used the 12v...

need help with printer descision (i850 vs i560)

I have two choices: a) i850 $45 b) i560 $75 which is better and why? I was leaning towards getting the i850 because I doubt the i560 is 66% better then the i850 (price diff) It won't be used for b&w since I have a hp 4100N already.. just for colour and photos

hard drive making annoying noise....grrr

it's normal.. alot of people aren't that sensitive to the whine, which is why they say their drives don't make the noise.. ditch it and get a seagate.. that's what I did.. the difference is like night and day..

Ok, it's been a while since I last ran powermax, I believe there were a few options, a basic test and a thorough test? try the thorough test if you didn't do that one already.. I had bad sectors on a maxtor a while back and it found them and gave an error code..

yup.. the p3b-f sees it as 256MB, so does a TUV4X.. in the manual for the TUV4x it specifically says modules with more than 18 chips are not supported, but it works fine anyways.. off the top of my head, I don't think the ram worked in an intel oem 810 board, and only shows up as 128mb in a...

need help identifying pc100 sdram module

ok, I tried out the ram on an Asus P3B-F, the bios detects the SPD (it's cas 2!), and says it's non-ecc.. but dimm_id.exe reports that no dimms are installed.. The reason I want to find out more about this module is because it's a real hit or miss when installing it in other motherboards...

hrm.. according to supermicro a ecc registered module should have 9 memory chips (or 18, or 36)+ 2-3 buffer chips (not 1)

if you want quiet, then stay away from WD.. it really depends on how quiet you want though.. if you've got a few vantec tornados and a bunch of other loud fans,etc, you won't notice the WD I can really notice the noise of my WD 120gb over my quiet panaflo fans...

yes, I did a google search too.. the module I have is different, it's 256MB, not 128MB.. what I want to know is how to find out if it's ECC and/or Registered.. In some motherboards it doesn't work at all, in others it only works as 128MB (probably because there are 32 chips vs. the usual 8 or...
