When XP is loading it should ask you to press F6 (I think) if you have any 3rd party raid drivers. Then when XP loads it will prompt you to put in a floppy containing you raid drivers (you need to copy these to floppy from the soyo cd). Once you have loaded these drivers XP will see your raid...
Suo - where did you get the info about the Epox board?
I'm trying to be a good boy & wait for the Gigabyte or MSI boards, but I'm starting to get desperate. Do you know if this board has the 4 holes to fit heatsinks like the Alpha 8045?
Anyone else have any idea when other boards are scheduled...
Just for the record I have to change my comments about Directron.com.
In my second order it turns out that the Yamaha cd/rw they are selling is grey market and so you cannot get the rebate that Yamaha is offering, plus they billed for but did not ship a floppy drive. I am still getting the run...
My Dragon picks up the rpm fine for the fans that support monitoring, so you may want to check your fan.
If you want to use ide 3 & 4 as non raid ide channels yo will have to install the ultra drivers, which are on the soyo cd.
I agree with caenus, unless you drop the damn thing on the chip this is a very stable heatsink. I remember having a heart attack when my screwdriver slipped when I was installing the retail heatsink on a P3. Putting the 8045 onto the cpu was so easy it was almost a letdown (ok so I need to get...
I really wanted to buy the ASUS board, until I read that the heat sink holes are filled in and so you cannot use the Alpha 8045 (I've already bought 2) heatsink with this board. I guess i'll wait until the Gigabyte or MSI boards are released......
I've been running this board for about 6 weeks now and the only issue I've had is not being able to get the smart card reader to work under XP.
Apart from that I am very pleased with the board.
When I bought my board at Fry's in Palo Alto they had a huge pile of these boards out on the floor...
<< The PCI problems have been patched, and they only affected PCI Raid or IDE controllers. Thus, for 99% of people, there wasn't even an issue. Nonetheless, since VIA is a company quick to react to problems, a patch has already been issued. >>
<< You didn't notice it until it was stated by...
I must admit I did like the look of the Cooler Maser case when I saw it at Fry's. However, as someone who likes buying expensive toys, even I could not justify the cost differential between the Lian-Li & the Cooler Master, which is why my second Lian-Li case should arrive tomorrow.
I've just ordered my second Lian-Li case from www.directron.com and have been very happy with their service. As you say they are about $15 more than ncix.com, but both orders I placed (in the evening) shipped the next day.
Why would registered memory not work on this board?
I understand that registered brings an overhead with it, but I thought that any board that runs with unbuffered would run with registered memory.
Although this problen is really highlighted by the ata133 drives, I think it rears its ugly head with ata100 systems.
I'm running a Soyo SY-K7V Dragon+, which has the Via 226A chipset and an onboard promise ata100 raid chip.
Without the latency patch I get sandra scores of 30800. After...
Jhites - are you using the raid features of the Dragon+ ?
I have a very similar setup to yours and after reading some comments on problems with via based boards I tried using sandra to profile my disks.
Sandra gives an estimate of 36000 for an ata100 raid0 config, where the best I could manage...
After reading all of the pre-release press I had decided on the KR7A-Raid, but patience not being one of my greatest virtues I ended up buying the Dragon because it was available.
While I am very happy with the board you should be aware of a couple of things if you plan on running XP. The...
Does anyone have any idea when the Gigabyte board is going to start shipping?
I was thinking about getting the Asus board, but the thought of onboard NIC & Raid has me favouring Gigabyte. However, knowing my willpower the first board to start shipping in volume is the one I'm likely to get...
I believe the 8045 is designed to have the fan sucking instead of blowing. I seem to remember a recent thread where someone changed from blow to suck (very dubious phrasing here) and the temp dropped by several degrees.
Hope this helps
Has anyone with this motherboard managed to get the smart card reader to work under XP?
All the blasted thing does is complain that it cannot get an ATR message & nothing else...
Help !
I guess you must be looking at the same card that I purchased from newegg. I have no idea how to tell a "golden samplw", but the box
certainly has a Ti/450 Golden sample sticker on it.
Cheers
What kind of cpu cooling fan are you using? Does it have 3 pins?
I installed one of these boards over the weekend & I seem to remember that it has a protection system where if it does not detect the cpu fan running it shuts down the system.
It explains in the manual how to shut off this feature...
Not an exact match but I put an Enermax EG465P-VE 431W Power supply into a Lian-Li pc-62 case last night with no problem.
I just love this case - the extra 10cm of depth make it so easy to put things together :-)
Yeah I know I'm a sell out - but my only consolation is that what I'm really waiting for is the Dual cpu mpx boards to hit the street. When those puppies arrive this becomes my #2 box & I can get rid of my PIII 666 ( I'll keep the 866). Hey at least I recognised the error of my ways & I'm going...
OK, I confess - I was weak. After starting this thread I read the Tom's Hardware review of KT266A & nForce boards. After reading that I went out & bought the Soyo Dragon Plus & XP1700+ combo from Fry's for $309..... plus 2 sticks of corsair pc2400 cas 2 memory.
I feel so cheap, I went instant...
Last week newegg had this board listed as an eta of late november & a price of $161. It disappeared for a few days, but now it is back with an eta of early December and a price of $185.
Has anyone placed orders for this puppy anywhere else & had feedback that shipments might be a bit late?
Cheers
As I'm waiting for the new batch of AMD MP boards to become available I need to choose a case to match the board.
Is the 10cm of extra length in the 62 case worth it? Is there another case I should consider?
