Thank you all so much that seems to have fixed it, I ran the benchmark programme for the first time which I know causes it to crash and it ran all the way thru. memory was set to auto and have only increased it slightly will have another look when im back from work

okay the standby problem just happened again, the internet connection was dropped by isp, screen went blank/black with flashing cursor in top right, i moved the mouse and my log in name came up saying how many programmes i had running, i then need to log back in, cpu temp about 55c has any one...

How to remove amd slot a processor?

is there a (i think its called a zif connector).it looks like a kight brown arm on the side of the processor ,after youve taken the heatsink off, push the zif connector down and pull it out to the side a little, then lift the lever and you should have access to the cpu

thanks Allanv if i did that would i have to reinstall all the drivers for other devices again (shouldnt need to reformat the hardrive)or would it remember them from before, he just got the computer so there is nothing that needs saving but i want to get the pc back to him. i dont have his win 98...
