    Blown capacitors on 8600GT

Apparently a few pops were heard from the computer and this is what was found. What are some possible causes for this? Was it just some bad capacitors on the card itself or could the PSU have been the culprit? Oh and the card has never been overclocked afaik. *Pics*...

What's your favorite browser right now?

Adblock Plus doesn't block anything and doesn't come with filters by default. That is, unless you subscribe to one of the filters that it shows you when you first run it. You could also just subscribe to Easylist here http://easylist.adblockplus.org/ Control + N = new window

FireFox 3.5 is slow and leaky for me

Could also give SRware Iron a try. It's a build off Chromium but with the privacy issues of Chrome removed and the auto-upater removed. Also has an adblock.ini file you can edit to use as an adblocker. You can grab pre-defined filters if you google for "fanboy's adblock"

    HELP! Windows 7 x64 + PeerGuardian 2 + iTunes = Massive Hair Loss

peerblock is supposed to be a peerguardian clone that works with 32bit and 64bit systems peerblock.com I'd let you know how it works but I'm still on XP and I quite frankly don't usually bother using PG/Peerblock

FireFox 3.5 is slow and leaky for me

The gist of the fiasco was that if both Noscript and Adblock Plus were installed, the noscript extension was coded to insert 'exception filters' into adblock so that when you visted the noscript homepage, the ads wouldn't be blocked.

FireFox 3.5 is slow and leaky for me

It's unfortunate everyone's having these problems. I use 3.5.2 with well over 35 extensions without issue. But at the same time, I've always done clean installs with major releases.

Fasterfox just incorporates a bunch of tweaks that can be found on any search for "firefox tweaks" which can be done manually using 'about:config'. No need to install it.

Firefox vs Safari vs Chrome vs IE8 vs Opera

I don't see how Firefox is a "performance laggard" here. The only browsers that beat it in that test are the ones based on webkit which, we all already know, is the fastest. Actually, Firefox was never really the fastest anyway, especially before tracemonkey came along. If anything, Opera...

For people who use firefox, why dont you use IE7/8?

Because it has nothing to offer. If I felt the need to switch, it would be to Opera with Chrome a distant second. Mozilla just needs to work on the general "sluggishness" of Firefox when it comes to startup time, memory use, and the overall feel. Otherwise, in terms of usability and features...

Program to store business card info

I know what you're thinking. Why can't I just use any regular program to keep contacts organized, etc. because I quite frankly have never bothered to use one. So I just need a recommendation on such a program. I've got hundreds of cards to keep track of so anything that's also simple to...

    winrar Vs 7zip

I've never really given 7-zip much of a chance but I decided to give it a go because of this thread. One thing that seems odd is that if I double click on a large archive with images, a loading window comes up as if it was extracting. It seems to go through the archive before the main screen...

Yet Another Smooth Scrolling -- I find this extension to be absolutely essential. I've always found the default scrolling to be a bit clunky and slow. This makes it a lot better. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5846 Noscript is great. Not just from a security standpoint but...

    Antivirus 2009/2010/2012

Browser choice shouldn't make a difference since these infections are predominantly social engineering based as far as I can tell. Software restriction policies may help. Don't allow executables to be launched from anywhere except C:\Windows and C:\Program Files. This is especially so...

Limited account is not very limited?

in general, you shouldn't really switch an administrator account to a limited one because quite frankly, this doesn't work very well. it's best to create a limited account from scratch.

Has anyone tried firefox 3.1 beta?

Works fine here but I actually use the nightlies at the moment. No major bugs to report as far as I can see with my personal daily usage. Javascript is speedier with the new tracemonkey engine. Private browsing mode works fairly well And although I haven't had Firefox crash yet, the new...

    Wireless range - G vs. N

I have both a Linksys WRT54GL with Tomato firmware and a recently acquired D-Link DIR-655. The router is located on the second floor and I was having a hard time getting a strong enough signal for a laptop in the basement. Tomato indicated the quality of the signal at about 10 to 15. The...

    Mozilla FireFox vs. Google Chrome

That's funny because that's exactly why I said "when it works" in my original post about the separate process feature. Yes, I know the browser is still in beta but it just shows that this feature may not be all it's cracked up to be. As for Greasemonkey... well, I'd recommend you install...

    Mozilla FireFox vs. Google Chrome

I like Firefox but I have different needs. I don't want a "simple" browser. I love to customize and have a variety of features and functions. That's why I use over 35 extensions. Chrome loads a hell of a lot quicker than Firefox does and the individual process per tab feature is nice (when...

Is there a utility out there to detect if someone is using your wireless connection?

It's not just about what you have ON the computers. It's about what you do over the internet connection as well. Without encryption, a lot of what you do over the network goes through the air in plain text. All someone has to do is sit there, turn on a passive sniffer, and get all that data. It...

Firefox 3: Is there some kind of utility to make it auto-update its databases?

I use over 30 extensions and I don't remember the last time FF3 crashed (aside from a single greasemonkey script that I have since gotten rid of). I suppose there's always the Firefox safe mode you can use to try and diagnose the problem. http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode...

Does µTorrent have a problem with FiOS?

Download limited in uTorrent, I believe, is when you set it at too low of an upload cap. You must have, intentionally or not, capped the upload at less than 5kB or so and uTorrent doesn't like it /edit - yup, this is confirmed on uTorrent's FAQ. This is a setting they built in to try...

Yeah, Opera's block content feature blows compared to Adblock but it works alright for banner ads. Once you block something, you can usually just enter the URL in manually for other things you want to block.
