2nd core in manchester 3800+ X2 not working

It's not a common thing to have happen but it seems most likely your PSU destroyed one of your two cores. I don't know what other diagnosis one could give based on what you're telling us. You're going to have to RMA it.

Want to sell my Pentium 4 CPU on ebay... how would you go about packing it?

The last time I shipped one I found a container of paperclips from Staples that was stiff plastic, roughly square and the same dimensions as a P4 cpu. I emptied it out, put the CPU in the plastic and packed the extra space with newspaper in order to secure it. I didn't get any complaints from...

If you're getting it on eBay or something make sure it is guaranteed. I had one that I bought cheap about 3 months ago and it artifaced badly whenever AA was turned on or the fan wasn't manually set to full. I resold it on eBay "as is" for a profit and the buyer didn't have any of the same...

Buffalo Firestix question

It probably defaults to a lower speed when you fill all 4 slots... motherboards have a tendency to do that, set it manually to PC-6400 in BIOS and make sure it runs stably. Also, if you're not overclocking, then you wont be able to tell the difference anyway, because your FSB is less than 1600Mhz

stock e6600 cooler

I use the stock cooler on my E4300 and it gets to 2.7ghz where I get motherboard-limited. I don't think my temps are that bad.

Dilemma: video card and game

It'd be silly to pay extra or to give up a freebie for an overclocked card, if you're against the idea of overclocking. The factory overclocked cards are the same chips from nVidia as the stock ones, it's just that the OEMs have tested them at higher speeds. IIRC, tests and reviews have shown...

I need a PSU

Look on eBay, I got a 660w Enermax with quad 12v rails that I nabbed for ~~$60... otherwise youre out of luck, if there was a holy grail of PSU you would already know about it.

If I were building, I would go with 4GB of the Supertalent 667, unless you are hell bent on getting to 1600FSB with this build. Even so you may be able to get the ST there or get it close. DDR2 800 offers no performance advantage until you get to 1600mhz FSB and being that 4GB of 667 will only...

Don't sweat the AGP factor too much. You can always eBay the thing when you're done with it, and then you'll just get the market price, and SOMEONE out there will probably still want it.

Dumbest thing you've ever done

I opened a power supply that I thought was dead and started thumbing through it with my hand---WHILE IT WAS PLUGGED IN. Zap. Thankfully it just made my arm feel like jello for a few seconds and didn't kill me. :shocked:

Vista is just "iffy" because the drivers are not 100% there yet, in terms of gaming. Most game are fine by now but you might want to do a dual boot. The five star ratings on all the Raptors at Newegg should tell you something. I have two in a RAID array and it easily made a much much bigger...

E6400 on a 945 chipset board

Sweet. Does it matter which side gets plugged into the 4pin? Also there is a 6pin connector which matches the pinout for my old 7900GTX. If my new card (8800GTS) has the same power input can I just plug the 6 pin directly into the video card?

teach him how to overclock if he wants to learn? otherwise if the BIOS ever has to be reset he's wasted all that money on higher quality stuff. if he doesn't want to screw with it, just use the extra money to buy higher clocked stuff at default. but ddr2-800 doesn't have a real performance...

Which One of the 24" 1920x1200 Monitors Should I Get?

I got the Samsung 244T when it was $830 and never regret it... I would get that over a Dell because I think it's weird to have the name of an OEM on my homebuilt computer, but that's me, it's like $650 at newegg I think

I tried to underclock it but can't without reinstalling OS. AtiTool is the only option for changing GPU clocks in Vista and I couldn't get it to work right. I just noticed that my cold cathodes start blinking like they are not getting enough juice when I put the video card under load...

Personally I think putting your OS and games on a Raptor/RAID 0 is the biggest performance increase you will actually notice for all the money you're spending. There is some noise but it depends on what you're used to. If you're used to "silent" drives where you can't hear the clicking it will...

yeah PS is looking more like the culprit all the time to me, although I still think it's weird that deep freeze blips out at the exact same time every single time. If you were going to get a replacement trying not to break your bank account, what would you look at?

Question about sound card

As far as I know every sound card ever created can do 2 channel stereo output to an analog 1/8" jack. Auzentech is supposed to be a very nice up-and-coming brand.

What would you do in this situation?

It's possible that it could be a GTO that was bios flashed but I don't believe so. If memory serves me the retail box was still shrinkwrapped and it was not a used item so they would have to go out of their way to do that. I feel like it may be a driver issue since I still haven't had issues...

I'm pretty sure it's stable with AA off. I'll probably do some more evaluative testing. I know it's not a heat issue even though I thought it was originally because I reseated the HSF and put Arctic Silver 2 on and the temps are pretty low and also because I opened the case and threw a big box...

GA-945P-S3 overclock

It could be your memory, CPU, any number of things. You can always try using SPD timings or adding some voltage to your DDR2 or the chipset. I usually give my FSB +0.1V. But this isn't the greatest motherboard for overclocking ever but it should run at 266 since it's a stock speed.

I recently found out that if you set the mem ratio to "2.0-" you can use the PCI-e lock correctly. You may want to give that a try soon. Did you try going right to 266?
