I've used Vista from day 1. Now I'm running Vista SP1 side by side with W7.
For some reason everyone flames Vista but loves W7. I just don't get it. The differences between these two OS's are very, very small.
So far no-one has been able to clearly articulate why W7 is superipor to...

I agree that the MX-1 is a good choice for totally enclosed with good cooling.
However I really like the docking station concept like the Thermaltake unit.
I installed mine last night. The Vista installation process seemed a little slower then a HD install but once it was done all I can say is WOW!! Once the computer get's past POST, Vista is up within seconds!! Apps load almost instantly.
A lot of other upgrades can only be seen from running...
To save tons of time since I already have a recent Vista install with all my apps. Someone did confirm that Acronis TI will work with SSDs.
Is there any special reason that X25-M benefits from a fresh install vs. a clone restore. I haven't had much experience with SSD's.
OK, I decided to order an Intel X25-M 80G SSD. What's the best way to optimize a desktop system to use this SSD along with a HD?
I'm thinking the X25 should be C: and contain the OS and apps. (all of which should fit well within 80G). Then I plan to put all the "my *" data files in D: which...
Most of the time you can delete chipset, video and other hardware specific drivers and then reboot and hope everything gets detected and installed. However I only do this method when I'm making fairly small changes.
Since you're going from old AMD technology to new Intel technology I'd bite...
Does anyone else have this issue with a Biostar Tpower I45. I enabled the settings in the Bios to power on the MB from either a keystroke or mouse click.
However neither of these features powers up the MB. I've tried a range of KB's, Mice and PSUs.
Has anyone been able to get this...
The Scythe Infinity is an excellent cooler. I wouldn't be concerned over the weight as long as you're not transporting the PC too much.
The Xigmatek is also getting rave reviews. (ie same performance as TRUE but cheaper, better quality and it includes a fan. TRUE has had quality control...
You should lap both the HSF AND CPU to ensure both surfaces are flat. Don't go beyond about 800 grit because after a point smoother is NOT better.
You want metal to metal contact on the microscopic ridges left by the lapping process with compound filling the voids. If the surfaces are too...
Throw it away!!
Use the rear case fan and set it on low. Install a front case fan and set it on low. Use a CPU cooler and run it <1000 rpm. (ex: Scythe Infinity)
You'll have a very quiet and cool system
That's total B.S. The stock cooler on a C2D does just fine. (even when modestly OC'd).
I've used the stock coolers on multiple builds of C2D's (both E6600's and E6700's). I was able to achieve good OC's on each at very reasonable temps. Stock coolers are much better then they used to be...
I'm sure the difference is the ambient temps. My room temps are usually between 65 and 68 and almost never >70.
Subtract approx. 10 degrees from your readings and we compare very closely.
If you're at 50 degrees idle at stock settings then something is definately wrong. I use an Ultra 90 in a second C2D system and it's usually around 30 degrees and that's OC'd and with Vcore at about 1.4V.
I bet the IHS on your CPU is not flat or your case ventilation is poor. Maybe your...
The Scythe HSF's do a very good job (Mine, Ninja and Infinity). I use an Infinity and I rarely see temps >30 degrees with a C2D OC'd with 1.475 Vcore. Even with a torture test its stays <40. It's also very quiet which is an important consideration for me. (fan is set for about 1000 rpm)...
Those fan sizes are too small for the typical wood case. I'd be looking at a min. of 120mm.
Go to the Antec scratch and dent store. I'd consider cutting up a Sonata or other decent case.
Quick question. This cooler interests me. Does it blow down onto the CPU or suck airflow back up from the CPU. I've been searching without results. TIA
I've used all the major inkjet printers and for what you describe I feel HP Deskjet technology is superior. My Deskjet has gone weeks between uses and the ink has never dried out. Even if it did the worst case is replacement of the cartridge with built in print head.
As a contrast Epsons...
I have a Sonota II and it's whisper quiet. I used a Fortron Blue Storm PSU with 120mm fan (almost inaudible). I have the rear case fan on low. For the CPU I have a Scythe Infinity running at about 1000 rpm. I added a Global Win front case fan but it's also running at about 1000 rpm.
My...
So the Ultra 120 Extreme is one of the most expensive Heatsinks but their quality control is so poor you need to pay an extra $20 to get the supplier to flatten the warped base!! At least Tuniq and Enzotech guarantee less then .0003" runout in their bases.
Maybe SVC will design a better...
Scythe Mine better then the TT???
Boy, that's a new one. I've never seen the Mine that high up in anyone's evaluation. Most of the time it's in about the middle of the pack.
I'd also love to see a battle of the Titans. (Enzotech vs. TT vs. Ultra 120 Ex. vs. IFX-14)
Unfortunately the...
I'd either get the Ultra 90 which does a great job on C2D and can be had for about $20, or I'd up your budget and get an Ultra 120, TT, Scythe Infiniti or Enzo.
Speaking of Lian Li, I've been looking at their PC-A12. Anyone have one?? Any feedback??
It looks like the interior design is very similar to Antec Sonata.
I'm not sure which is best Sonata III vs Lian Li PC A12. Price is also comparable but Antec provides a power supply.
I also like...
The user reviews at Newegg are also very mixed. I would not expect this from a $65 HS.
Perhaps the Tuniq Tower is still the king once you factor in quality.
The same thing happens at UPS, FedEx, etc. It just happens where you don't see it.
Packaging is everything. Assume it will have to sustain a 6' fall from a conveyor belt and pack it to survive. Double box with lots of cushioning.
I don't install them but I'm also hanging onto them. Sometimes it's the best way to flash a BIOS. (I'm just not comfortable with doing it from within windows and not all MB's have the flash drive option)
