Major breakdown! I understand nothing and cry for help!

I will second this question. Memtest86 won't find all memory errors, but it will catch most of the common ones. I have had many computers with similar symptoms that were caused by bad memory.

    What's your favorite os?

Gentoo linux for me. Once I figured out the basics, I just felt to confined in Windows world so I deleted WinXP off my sytem completely. Going cold turkey was hard at first, but I've gotten the hang of it now, and the only place I use Windows is at work. I do like the look of OSX, and I have...

    A+ test?

I took it a couple of revisions ago, and there were several questions about the laser printing process. Stuff like why are there streaks or why does the text smudge after a page is printed. The thing I hated the most was the questions about opening the hardware manager and other programs a...

*will send 20$ for solution* Help - Video problems with new system *

Are you trying to overclock at all? I have seen many boards do the same thing when the cpu is pushed too far. Try resetting your bios and see if it will boot. There may be a keyboard command for resetting, on my board I can hold the insert key while powering on and it will reset. You may also...

    Math Question

Well, like I said I was tired, and that was what came to mind when I looked at the picture. Proving DEC is isosceles is easy, an easy way to get that last segment (DC) just didn't spring to mind. It looks to me like you could use angle and segment constructions to draw triangle DAE outside the...

    Math Question

Well, here's my go at it: Given that angle BAE = angle ABE, it follows that triangle AEB is isoceles, and therefore segement AE = segement BE. Also, it is given that segement AD = BC, and by angle subtraction angle DAE = angle CBE. Using a SAS correspondence, we can find that triangle DAE =...

    Intel Anypoint II USB Linux

I am at a bit of a loss trying to get the Intel Anypoint II USB wireless network adapter installed on my laptop running Slackware 8.1 (stock 2.4.18 kernel). I have found drivers for the Atmel chipset the card is based on, and the modules load fine. An lsmod shows that vnetusba (the cards module)...

just got Comcast cable modem. Their software screwed with my system. Help

The rotating globe is called the throbber. Go to TechTV for some hints on changing it or resetting it back to normal. Since I run Comcast Internet from linux, I can verify that EagleKeeper is correct about not needing any special software. All you need is to use dhcp and set your computer's or...

What's the weirdest computer problem you've ever dealt with?

Got two quick ones. One was a person at work called me in her office because she thought her speakers were bad. I take a new set over, and she has me listen for a grinding noise that seems to be coming from the speakers. I replaced the speakers, and it happened again. I then turned all the...

Get ready to Laugh. KDE question

Bizarre problem, any help would be much appreciated.

Some motherboards allow you to clear the bios when booting by holding a key at power on. On my Abit VP6 I have to hold the insert key when I get a bit overzealous with my overclocking and need to reset the multipliers. I agree with the other posters that it does sound like your bios needs to be...

    Abit VP-6 w/pair of 933's.......opinions

I have one with a single p3 750 that's been running at 1000 for about 6 months now. The board can be a little quirky, to say the least. It is very particular about which cards you put in which slot due to typical via irq sharing issues (at least with that chipset). I have found it kinda flacky...

C++: How do I accept a whole formula?

Nothing wrong with DaveSimmon's answer, but if you'd like to do it in a more c++ oriented way you may consider string streams #include <sstream> . . istringstream iss(temp); //temp a string holding the substring you want iss >> a; //where a is any other type

    TICK/PAUSE/TICK noise from HDD --- EDIT1 (Fixed!) / EDIT2 --- Doing it again ! EDIT3 --- Installed new Maxtor :)

It sounds like your drive is definately going bad. The WD diagnostics just remaps bad blocks to spare blocks on the drive. The bad blocks on your drive seem to be multiplying, this is not a good sign. Eventually, there will be no more spare blocks to map to, and WD Diag will tell you the problem...

    PIO instead of DMA??

Try disabling the cdrom in your bios. Windows should still see it, and will most likely enable DMA. I had to do this on my old Asus P3B-F (Gawd I loved that board, may it rest in peace) Hope this helps.

    XP hates me, pls help!

Just as somthing else to try, make sure you have proper cooling for that Athlon (I'm sure you do, just covering the basics) and are not overclocking. NT is more sensitive to CPU's running out of spec than Win 9x (at least in my expierence). I hope you get it figured out.
