Problem with my GIGABYTE GA-965G-DS3

Bozo - Yeah the DVDRW shows up as a drive letter in file explorer. Strangely, when I left-click on the drive letter it does not prompt with "insert disc" or whatever, it just shows it empty (there is no disc in drive). When I have a CD in the drive it reads it fine. Haven't checked a DVD yet...

Is anyone familiar w/ Zalman fans...

Zalman fans are junk. I got two of those 80mm and both started vibrating so loudly after a year so I threw em away. They must have crappy bearings or something. They start out nice and quiet but they wont last long.

Does your MS Wireless Explorer mouse eat up batteries?

I read reviews on the MS and Logitech wireless mice, and poor battery life was a big problem for both. That's why I bought an Aopen wireless mouse, the batteries (2AAA) last over a month on average. I use NiMH rechargeables which are way cheaper than alkaline in the long run.

SP3 rocks for me. Now I can finally use my firewire compact flash card reader. Previously windows would lose the connection whenever I accessed a card and it would corrupt all my files on the flash card. Now it works perfect!

Win2k SP3 makes my system faster?

Don't forget that Service Packs contain all prior service pack information. So when you download SP3, you are also getting all the info in SP1 & SP2 with it. At least that's what I've heard.

No need to attack me there Pariah. Sorry I pissed off the godly "platinum member" status. Sorry I don't average over 3 posts per day. The B-IV is roughly 3 times quieter than my Maxtor based on the logarithmic nature of the decibel scale, but we should all be impressed by the new Seagate U6...

What brand hard drives are the quietest?

I don't buy into this "it's so quiet I can't hear it" crap. Look at storage review. I compared my Maxtor D740X (loud as all hell) to the Barracuda IV. The Maxtor's idle noise rating is 46.3 dB/A while the Seagate is 41.3 dB/A. They are BOTH louder than my CPU fan. ALOT louder.

Possible to cool socket 370 celeron without fan?

Has anyone used the Zalman copper "flower" cpu cooler on a socket 370 celeron 1GHz?? The specs say it is good enough to cool a P4 (with fan at 1600rpm), so I'm thinking it might be good enough for the celeron without the fan. My reasoning for this is the celeron puts out around 30W and the P4...

Edit: Problem solved.

There is a command line utility you can download from MS for NT that allows adding non-MS apps as a service. It will work with win2k but I haven't tried it myself. Do a search at MS for it.

Whats the best TV Tuner Card???

Also check out Creative Labs and Hauppauge which have hardware encoding to free up your cpu for other tasks, I know my computer isn't fast enough to reliably capture ntsc 30fps and it's an Athlon XP 1800+. Hauppauge also has a HDTV tuner! If you want a great resource check out AVS Forum.
