nobody mentioned it in this thread, so I'll say it. these are uber fast drives with excellent avg sustained throughput numbers. outperforms virtually every other sata drive out there. flame on if I lie.

... was tempted by this deal, but still shy about ECS from the bad old days of 30% failure ECS socket A boards. I'm sure they are better now, as the rep was explaining...
by way of update, ordered these & received. was sad to see the crap chips they put on now (buffalo used to use those sweet winbond chips back in the day).
these 1gb sticks didn't clock very well (~219+/-), even with added juice.
still, good price & appreciated.
jdoggg12: though the drive seems like a great one, given the reviews on OEM drive shipping from egg, you've got decent odds of receiving a DOA drive. then return & rebuy.

twice, can you please explain this a little more? I think you mean if one sticks this card into an old PCI slot, the result is barely over USB2 speeds. isn't USB2 theoretically up to 480 mb/s? help me understand; I've not been keeping up as much as you, obviously.

this reminds me of the "lease" or "buy" debate for cars. I've always been a "buy" guy and, perhaps consequently, I like Seagate's longer warranty.
I suspect you 3-year-replacement-types are "lease" people. :)
idunno man, these pc chips boards left a bad taste in my mouth... I love a deal as much as the next guy, but I wouldn't buy a PC chips board nor let a friend buy one. Not under any circumstances.

However, this product looks like WD is re-using old technology (5400rpm, which is what these run at) and branding it "green". I'd be curious to know whether these "green" products are manufactured using...
reliability would seem to be better with lower heat, but the issue I have with WD is the warranty - as long as Seagate is backing their drives for 5 years (vs 3 years --I think-- for this model), I have to look for Seagates.
