I have an XP 1600+ with a heat sink that supports a low RPM fan 80mm. Along with my Barracuda HD the system's nearly silent - even in my quiet bedroom. I wouldn't give up the performance of an XP for a 1.7 GHz Celeron - that's a dog!! Return the stuff and go back to the XP!!! (And I'm not...
I have to agree. Set the jumpers on that hard drive from "master" to "slave" and then hook it up. If you want, you can transfer the files and then remove it or you can just keep it as extra storage.
The ASUS nForce1 board at newegg is excellent. That's the board in my main system and I've had no problems whatsoever. Just note it doesn't have the dual channel DDR. I'm not using the onboard video but am using the onboard NIC and sound.
Can't go wrong EITHER WAY if you use quality components in your system. It's a matter of personal choice. I've got two AMD systems running on nForce1 motherboards and they are stable as can be. I recently gave away an ASUS P5a (ali alladin) with a K6III@550 (and upgrade from a K6-2 350)...
My Lite-On DVD and CDRW drives have both been great (though the sounds they make when opening and closing don't inspire a lot of confidence). Of course I've never had a CD burner or DVD drive die on me!
I've got to agree with Ride Free. I get home from work most days and have 10-20 unavailables and it doesn't stop there.
How do you tell the pre-recorded messages that call not to call you back!! It's getting out of control - these no call lists and all this stuff are long overdue.
Honest...
I was under the impression that the the next gen P4s are going to need the Springdale chipset (I think that's the one) and it sounds like Bartons will run on the nForce 2. I say the athlon gives you an upgrade path and the P4 doesn't.
I find I've been replacing my maxtors because they get become outdates or too small, not because they die. I've never had a maxtor die on me. Right now I'm leaning towards Seagates but that's just because they are so quiet. I've also heard that Maxtor's RMA policy is among the best.
It was actually a pretty cheap heatsink that takes the large, low RPM fan. Still cheaper than an equivalent Intel setup. I agree at the top the price advantage disappears now a days but in the midrange there's still money to be saved! Especially if you a building a non-gaming sytem where...
Who cares if your AMD system is a few degrees (110-115 vs 108) hotter. I've gone the quiet route after years of going for the best cooling. I'm running a 1600+ on an nForce with Panaflos (and two Seagates) that's virtually silent. I took out my front case fan and it's running a few degrees...
Yes, it's on slave and it was the slave before with no problem (ang it is seen properly by the BIOS and Device Manager.)
I was just thinking - the new drive is NTFS and I can't remember whether the old one was NTFS or just FAT32. Could that be the problem?
I just replaced my boot drive with a new Seagate Baracuda and left my slave (another Baracuda) alone. I reinstalled WinXP and now the slave drive (with all my data!) doesn't appear in "My Computer". It appears in the BIOS and in the Device Manager also. When I looked at the information in the...
I'm hoping for some help for someone who's been around here since the beginning but only comes up as a junior because I lost my old ID - frequent reader, infrequent poster.
I was upgrading my second computer from an old KT133 board to an ASUS nForce board. I've build at least 20 or so systems...
I somehow became 'infected' with this lop.com search thing that appears every time I boot up and can't get rid of it. I tried cleaning my system, using antispyware programs, etc. Whever I reach an unavailable page in IE, it also automatically goes to there homepage.
Any sugestions on how to...
I recently was upgrading my secondary computer to Windows XP and needed a supported video card. I bought a Powered by ATI OEM Radeon 32DDR from New Egg because it was cheap and I don't really game on that computer. Now the 2D video quality seems much worse than the previous video card (a...
Sorry about the junior member thing - I haven't posted in a while and lost my old handle! I've installed XP Pro on a number of computers now with now problem except for one minor one on the last. Windows won't shut down the computer automatically - you get the old-fashioned "It's safe to shut...
