    Linux antivirus?

    I have been using linux since 1994 - I have never seen a linux virus. Trust me, you really have absolutely no need to be concerned about viruses on linux. I do run virus scanning software on my email server, but the purpose of that is to catch viruses in email before they get to any windows users.

    For me, 1997 was the year of the Linux desktop. I remember that was the year for Linux desktops as well. I haven't had this experience. Neither CS3 nor CS4 work at all using Wine.

    This looks like a job for peanut linux! Seriously though, just go here and follow the directions in install.txt for installing from harddrive. If you need any help then go ahead and read the howto.txt file and you might want to look over it anyway. HTH :)

    I suppose it's just like 9.2 only bootable, which means that it would probably be a better linux "demo" cd to carry around than knoppix, considering Mandrake's WindowUser-friendliness.

    I'd say about 6gb minimum if you're installing on hard drive, 10 would be better if you want to download big files, install lots of linux games, etc. You could also just download MandrakeMove and don't even bother with the partitioning and stuff. And Mandrake won't kill your cdrom drive.

    Yep, it's possible, just make sure that IE has java installed and running properly. And make sure that the applet is bug free. It will consume a ton of system resources though. BTW, could you turn on your private messaging?

    I've never had any installed either through IE or a mozilla flavour. I'm too tired to do this. I do use a firewall in both Linux and Windows, though.

    A Knoppix install to the hard drive as a far better learner distro than mandrake. Mandrake does most of the setup for you and is one of those distros that aspire to the home market. Debian (which is what knoppix really is) is a good middle-field distro, niether for the home users or for the uber...

    I think that this comment is very insightful on the subject: If this is right then I think that this can be considered a non issue for non-microsoft OSs. The only companies that would have to worry about this are the hardware manufacturers that preformat all their stuff as (v)fat. I suppose...

    Hmm, Mandrake 9's installer is usually pretty stable. I've noticed that Mandrake ISOs are unusually difficult for most cd burners to get right, which is why I burn mine at 2x and I've never had a problem :P

    Not that I know of. I had this same problem, so I found an old pentium system and set it up as a webmail server. I'm not really to sure how you would go about doing this in Windows, though.
