Possible fried mobo, what to check next?

I've got a ASUS P4T533-C i850E mobo, 2.26Ghz P4. Apparently everything was working last night. Today nothing. Went to check my email and had a blank monitor. At first I thought my monitor was dead, but the the status light on the bezel was showing an amber 'no signal' color. I then tried...

PC2100 vs. PC2700 ram - which will be better for my new system?

PC 2700 should be the better way to go. I think Tom's hardware guide did some benchmarking on DDR with CAS 2/CL2 versus CAS 2.5 and CAS 3.Tom's Hardware Anyway PC 2700 should get you closer to the FSB bandwidth that the P4 uses. JDJ

    P4T-E / RAMBUS - HELP ME!

No all 4 do not need to be filled with ram. If this is the same mobo I just ordered, there are 2 rimm slots running horiz. and 2 vertically. You need to fill one slot in the vertical and one in the horizontal. The other two slots need to be filled with CRIMM's which should have been in the...

    questions about DDR memory timing

I was over at the VR-zone reading their review of overclocked DDR333 and I had some questions. The following excerpt is from their description of the testing setup. Could someone take the time to explain what all these are/do in regard to the memory module. Also, if you would explain how...

Three options...which one is worth it?

Personal choice would be option 3. My older pentium board doesnt support more then 1x AGP. Even in light gaming you will probably want something with a little more power then that. Of course that would depend on the type of gaming you are planning on. John

Are their any hardware firewalls for the average user??

Sorry I didnt tell you how much the DI-701 cost. I think they were running around $50 last time I looked. I dont know that they are making them with the DI-704 cable/dsl routers out now. If you are running both computers in the same room then pick up a cable/dsl router with the built in...

Dumbest Tech Question you've heard in 2001

I had a lady at work ask me last week to help her open a file from a friend of hers. Just so happened to be the christmas.exe virus which also did its work on her computer in front of me.... Her excuse for not using virus scan was that her friend would, "NEVER" send her a virus, because she...

Why exactly 2 sonic booms instead of another number?

<< While on the post, i watched a video of a jet figter flying supersonic with a cone of "fog" traling behind it. Correct me if i akm wring but is that because of the low pressures formed by the sonic boom or something that caused the air to condense? >> I believe it's due to a number of...

    DVD writeable standard soon?

From what I've read DVD+RW is 'supposed' to be backwards compatible with older DVD players. DVD-RW should be compatible with new or newer DVD players but the early data says that there may be some issues for older players...which ones that would be, I wouldnt even begin to know. I believe both...

Are their any hardware firewalls for the average user??

Quick question. How do you connect to the internet?? Do you have only one computer or several. The answer depends on your setup. I have only one computer (for now), so no network. I also use DSL. I got a D-link residential gateway that acts as a hardware firewall my computer is hooked up...

    Much difference between 5400/7200rpm drives?

Most hard drive transfer rates are still below the theoretical max of the ATA66 as far as I know. I added a 7200 rpm drive to my old p3 44bx-2 mobo and I noticed a difference for the better. -John

CPU gurus? Enlighten me as to optimal CPU cache associativity.

<< From what ive read they just use a laser to disable half of the L2 cache on a P3 to make a Celeron. This reduces the 8-way set to 4-way. >> I had also heard that in some cases there were P3 with crippled L2 cache, ie a portion of the 256k cache didnt work. To save $$ they took a laser to...

AGP bus speed limitation/tech book recommendations

Bit of a newbie question for the group. Hope it's OT. I read that the AGP bus is limited to 66Mhz but didnt see an explanation. Just wondering if it had to do with a Northbridge/MCH limitation or if it was more simple than that. Also, if anyone could recommend some good books on the basics...

"IT" Revealed, and I'd REALLY like to understand how it works..

<< I don't think the individual will need much incentive to use it. We're talking about something that's easy to use and take care of and which would cost considerably less than daily use of public transportaion, and only a tiny fraction of the cost of owning and operating an automobile. I...

"IT" Revealed, and I'd REALLY like to understand how it works..

I wonder if the price point of this product...
