Change name back from imported_name

It looks like I changed it later. I still have the PMs in my inbox from the moderator who changed it, which this apparently happened in 2004. Here was the thread http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=1452879&highlight= The PMs are still in my account's mailbox.

Yes - in 2001 I lost my old email tied to my original account, created this account as onelin0, and a friendly mod at the time changed it back to onelin. I have had it since then, prior to the forum changeover, otherwise I don't think it would have imported me as imported_onelin :)

Hi, Could I have my username changed from "imported_onelin" back to "onelin"? I've been late to the game logging in to the new forums, so I hope I didn't miss the boat. I've had this account since 2001, which was itself a carry over from an even earlier account.

FireFox and FTP...

I'd recommend getting an FTP client, as browsers typically have only rudimentary FTP capabilities. Then you won't have to use a web page to get any of it done. I think Smart FTP is free for noncommercial use, though I personally have been using Bulletproof FTP for many years. Should be easy to...

I'm not sure if there's an option for a dialog in FF, but you can certainly add it into the URL. ftp://user:password@yourftp

Do you use 100% size when working in Word or Excel?

100% in word, 1280x960 res. I run dual, so I always have some extra work space if I need it...but usually I'm focusing when I'm writing. (or rather, trying to)

Yep. It's quite awesome, and I may just have to talk to appropriate people at my campus to make sure we get it, too :) I've been a registered Opera user since version 6. Of course, we already have Firefox in all the CS labs.

I think what merc meant is that where you undergrad will affect how easily you get into the bigger grad schools... I'm curious about it myself since I graduate from a small state school in May.

Microsoft to users: Prove it!

More power to 'em. As for the pirate thing, you need to be reporting a computer maker in question to get reduced rates. You can't report yourself and expect to get discounted rates on windows. I remember PC shows where sketchy vendors would just install windows on every computer, and joe user...

Ruby. I finally heard the name one too many times and I decided to check it out and not be a skeptic associating it solely with python etc. I'm loving it completely and I think I'll be finding a long term relationship with Ruby on Rails as well :) There are some graphical tools for it...

in windows xp, is there a way to find out how long your computer has been on?

these days I usually check by my LAN status tray icon, since regardless of connection losses it always seems to tick from when it first connected Challenger: I never knew about systeminfo, cool.

Calendar Software for the Web?

I was going to say you could always rig something with a webdav server and use sunbird, but man have I had a rough time issues setting up webdav w/ (any) webserver. It will be great once I get it running... *** not a webserver guy at all

Energy Drinks

I drink Red Bull when I really need it...I've had some Rockstars and those are good when you need the extra dose. I don't drink soda or coffee, period. guarana is the strongest diuretic and I try to avoid it the most...that would be my main beef with bawls I guess, of course I haven't had...

are you also being explicit in your connection attempts to the ftp about port 444 or just using the server name? I don't really understand the port 21 issue, I ftp to sites and am always running my local ftp on port 21. There isn't a direct port mapping between local and remote... when I connect...

Question about the people in EQ2

I find it hard to believe either can be objectively listed as "more mature" in terms of the group of players. Within a guild, I know ours always had an 18+ rule (and most were 25+ and even 30's and 40's) ...that's just how it was. Yet that speaks NOTHING about the general server populations for...

Question about the people in EQ2

As a long time EQ player I highly doubt EQ2 players are much different... real age notwithstanding, many of the people still act like children. The fact that you have to rely on others to get anything done isn't an advantage over being able to solo. Guild politics alone can be one of the ugliest...

aww c'mon, no one was lazy enough to subtract the character 0? :) '9' - '0' results in 9. :) but I agree on stringstream, especially if it will do the math for you on multiple digit stuff...

Firefox uses floppy to download

Did you try what he said? I'm guessing that making FF autosave to a location does not rewrite the browser.download.lastDir preference that he is talking about. Put a floppy in and MANUALLY select an alternate location (and for kicks, not your desktop) one or twice then put it back on default dir...

firewalling is definitely the quick answer, but like Nithin said there are also alternative mediaplayers that are much cooler and don't do those things :)

would you rather play games made from doom3 engine or half life 2 or other?

The Source engine actually runs better on my somewhat-dated machine (GF4 Ti4400, P4 2.4GHz, 1GB RAM) ...but once I upgrade, the DOOM 3 engine :) Most of what I liked in HL2 were textures, so that isn't all that engine-specific.

Half Life 2 impossible to play in offline mode!!!

There's actually a reason (and consequently a solution) for that, Quake 3 engine games try to connect through one port...once you have multiple computers on one LAN trying to get squeezed through your router there's no way they can all connect to the gameserver via that same port... I...
