How do I find out what an unknown device is?

You might try to uninstall (remove) the unknown device, and see if it finds it again. If it does then it may identify it as well.

You can read, write, re-write, and erase all from within XP. You can use Windows Explorer. You really don't need extra software to do that.

how to clone an entire of a hard drive into a new same size hard drive?

Install both drives and using Ghost do a "disk to disk" copy. Couldn't be easier. :)

how do I extract from cab files?

If you're running Win98 in any configuration, and you can't get access to your CDROM drive, you should be able to find all your cab files in the Windows\Options directory. The DOS commands mentioned earlier will work from there.

As long as you're running any incarnation of XP, my advice is to have as much RAM memory as you can afford up to 1Gb. 512Mb will do anything you need it to, today, but who knows what you'll be faced with tomorrow. ;) For those reading this who are running ME or older, you can't use any more...

Cant install New hardware with WIN XP Pro

Yes, you need to have full blown rights within the OS to install hardware. Ensure you are the administrator on the system. You might also check in bios to see if you have a setting for Plug-n-play operating system. There is sometimes a yes or no setting.

You can install just the AntiVirus program. I recommend paying a visit to symantec.com if you're not sure how to do it. Basically you need to be able to browse the CD before starting. :)

I recommend making a Ghost image of your hard drive to either CDs or another drive, then do a fresh install on a freshly reformatted drive to give yourself another 30 days. Then what you can't reinstall, you can migrate over from the Ghost image. Or You can call the Microsoft help line...

Why is my Power Button light NOT LIT UP?

Well, it could be that the LED burned out or that your power light connection to the mobo has been compromised. Any chance you had to disconnect it and perhaps got it re-connected backward? That would do it as well.

What's your Favorite Fan! Need suggestions here..

Just Cooler's P-8000 HSF. It's quiet (about 26dBA) and no high pitch whine at all. It's 80x80x25. With Arctic Silver II, it keeps my XP 1700+ at a fairly constent 39c under what ever load I put to it. All for about $20.00 :D
