Whats your favorite/ most versatile slot 1 motherboard?

get the abit be6/2. i have used it forever it seems. i have also use the bh6....similar boards, but he be6/2 will run 6mhz higher with a p3-600b @146=@876

Best non-Via chipset DDR Athlon XP board?

IMHO, the shuttle ak31a is a great board at a great price. It uses a three phase power switch, which only a few boards use; all 4 dimms can be populated with unregistered memory, 6pci, jumperless, and the dimms aren't in the way of the agp. I have been running this board solidly for a couple...

AK31, Athlon 1.4, memory dump

In regards to irq sharing...most pci devices will share irq's fine. However, if you are not using the serial ports, diable them and free up IRQs3/4. Turn pnpOS to disable and set resources manually. Ideally, you should be able have video running on irq11 alone. 3,4,5 should be open for usb...

poll: best mobo: 8kha+ or dragon or AK31A

Stupid question, do I really need the CDROM and SPDIF cables from my drives to my sound card?

I have some experience in this department. You do NOT need to have either an mpc or spdif cable connected to the sound card/cd-rom if using mediaplayer7+, winME, winXP. the analog and digital audio is carried through the IDE interface and directed to the sound processor.
