    Best Silent PC Case?

Even with silent cases, I've learned that you have to meet the case halfway. It starts with silent components... A highly efficient power supply so there's less heat as waste. Quality VGA coolers (water or air) can drastically drop temps and be much quieter. etc, etc. But for the case, I also...

    Win 10 deletes Win7 icons/start menu?

Is it normal for Windows 10 to delete your Win7 desktop icons and start menu shortcuts when going the upgrade path? Fine for clean installers, but that's a pretty dumb thing to do to upgraders. Nobody can find their apps. Luckily I was able to revert back to Win7 easily. Guess I'll wait...

Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme on LGA 1155?

I bought an ASRock P67 Pro3 motherboard back when I made my SB build. It has the 775 socket holes right on it too. I was able to transport my TRU120 over without a problem. Still cools like a champ. A number of their 1155 boards have alternate 775 holes.

    window artifacts stay on screen

We've probably all experienced it before at one time or another... You're working with a program, then maybe you close or minimize the window, but some small portion of that program's window remains on the screen. It doesn't go away until you "scrub" it by moving something else over that area...

antec NSK6580B or Sonata III or Sonata Designer?

I've built systems with the Antec Designer and Antec Solo. They're functionally identical except the Solo doesn't include a PSU. Pretty good quality cases. They're tanks (heavy). I'm not sure the sound dampening material lining the inside actually does very much, but it doesn't hurt. The...

RC1 Start Menu Question from XP User

Thanks. Yeah, what I am looking for is a way to make all of the folders work like the "Getting Started" folder does... When you select it, the width of the window expands to show the subfolders inside. This is basically how XP's Start Menu worked. I'd rather work this way rather than using a...

RC1 Start Menu Question from XP User

Random question from an XP user. ;) I mostly like RC1. I was able to customize the UI enough to be mostly satisfied with it, except for one setting... In XP, when you navigate the Start menu folders, the different folders cascade from left to right. Example: Start > Programs > System Tools...

    Advice on wattage

Yep, 500w is more than enough for that setup. Even though we don't know any specifics about the PSU, you're probably fine. General rule of thumb, you only really need to start thinking about something higher than 500w if you use more than one graphics card.

    8800 GT w/New Cooler vs 8800 GTS G92

The GTs aren't terribly loud, but they do seem to run pretty hot. Get an after-market for the temperatures if you are anal about that sort of thing. But don't get one over just noise.

    Decline of SFF

Everyone's pointed to a lot of good reasons. I chalk it up as a fad that came and went. That's not to say they'll go away, but it's not "hot" anymore also because they were not able to capitalize and keep up with the pace of technology and the needs of enthusiasts. The Shuttle cases...

LIST OF COOLERS THAT WORK FOR 8800GT

If you can use a screwdriver, you can handle the removal/attachment of VGA coolers. Some get applied differently than others, but none of it is rocket science. The important part is to *clean off the GPU and RAM surfaces thoroughly* before attaching RAM heatsinks and new thermal grease to the...

*DEAD* 8800GTs BACK IN-STOCK and $208 (MSI) and $235 (XFX) at Dell!

Canceled my Dell order. Is demand dying down? There's been a handful of 8800GTs on NewEgg starting at around $260 for at least the last day or so. It's not as good as $220 shipped, but it's not terrible compared to some earlier price rape.

DEAD!!! MSI GeForce 8800GT 512M PCIe for $207.99 from Dell - FREE shipping - *but Dell NEVER ships it..delay..delay...*

Got my 12/26 delay note also. These things are getting delayed week-to-week-to-week with no consideration for actual availability. So it's extremely predictable to say we can expect another delay notice on 12/26. Then on 1/2/08, etc.

    Thermalright HR-03 GT now available

Seems like they basically answered you. If it's an original 03 or the 03 Plus, it won't fit. Rev. A technically fits the mounting holes, but they discourage that combo. As they say on their site: "As for HR-03 Rev. A, technically it can be installed on the 8800 GT but because the PWN IC on...

Newegg refunding 20% for paypal promotion

"Offer might apply, but we won't tell you until after the fact. Buy at your own risk. Receive a FREE week of run-arounds!" is not much of a promo. :) Hence NewEgg's attempt at making good. This no-brainer, exclusionary solution is one that Leadership would come up with before the close of...

Will Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme amd Seasonic M-12 600W fit in RC-690 case?

General rule of thumb is that the U120's will fit in cases that are 8" wide, but side fans will get in the way at that thickness. 8.4" with fan will be close. Let us know.

Which Card for 250 watt PSU?

For what it's worth, the Antec EarthWatts 380 is going for $15 on NewEgg after a $30 MIR. That's about the cheapest you're going to get for a good PSU for quality mid-range gaming. At that price, why not? Linky

Paypal Promotion: 20% off at select vendors (Newegg, Toys R Us, eToys, Ritz, etc.)

There was a domino effect of mass confusion with this thing. Yes, CSR's could have been better informed, HOWEVER had the mailer/promo page clearly identified either "All Items" or "Select Items" as being eligible, then the lack of communication with CSRs for this particular issue would have...

It's definitely any item. When you go to PayPal during checkout, you'll reach a page confirming the 20% deal. But it expires on 11/28 (on newegg, anyway). Can't really wait around for new products or hope for more 8800GT stock.

Question about installing a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme

Look very carefully around the sides of the fans, you should find arrows to show you the direction it blows. But if not, the fan most likely blows towards the labeled side (have the label face the U120).

    8800GT v. 3870 Noise?

Has anybody had first-hand experience with both cards that can tell if one card is louder/quieter than the other? There aren't a whole lot of noise comparisons out there that I trust. I am putting together a quiet-ish new build. All indications are that the 3870 is fairly quiet, but how does...

Questions About the Thermalright ULTRA-120 Extreme

Generally a case that is at least 8" wide will safely fit the U120, but side vent fans often get in the way at that width. I don't think it will fit with that monster fan. Nice case though. ;)

Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (and other coolers)

It's called the 'S-type Heatsink Clip' on the Thermalright website, under Accessories. Link "...allowing heatsink to rotate 90 degrees on the CPU socket. (For HR-01, Ultra-90, Ultra-120, SI-97A, and SI-128)"

Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (and other coolers)

I have the original U120 in a Solo. The 120E should fit if it's the same height, which I think it is. Thermalright has an adapter which lets you rotate the 120A to face the exhaust with an AM2 setup, but I don't think it'll fit the Extreme model. Since I don't OC either, I didn't think the...

    Wonky HD Problem

I'm wondering if there's possibly a way to get to the drive's contents by bypassing or avoiding Windows altogether. The reboot doesn't start until Windows begins to load, and the BSOD I got after trying to connect it through the USB enclosure mentions an ntfs error. I might be grabbing at...
