Do you think the fan is dead? It is a three-wire fan and it spins when given juice, but then shuts down. I assume it does that as a 'smart' fan, not as a dead one. Of course I could be wrong. It should be a simple matter to connect it to something other than the fan connection marked CPU...

I will try that, as it does not require much more than I have already done, but I do not see how this is going to cure the complete failure to post. I think I either need to find a way to restore the BIOS or else buy a new mobo. I wonder if it could be new CPU time as well?

Oh, I am all in favor of toner over ink. It just seems to make far more sense to buy three printers and throw two away, keeping only the toner from the discards, than it does to plan on buying replacement toner later on.

My daughter's art school required her to get a Macintosh laptop. Now, she needs an external HD for same. She has given me only two requirements: It must be at least 100Gig, and it must have a USB connection. Is there anything else I should look for, or do all HDDs work with both PCs and Macs?

Wow, that does not sound good. Heck, given their packaging, it barely sounds possible. It probably isn't worth RMAing something priced this low, but it really should not be bent like that. Someone slipped up on quality control somewhere.

I want to be sure I understand this. When you bolt the heat sink to the chipset, are the fins and fan located straight above the hrat sink, no matter which way you turn it? If that is the case, then something is wrong.

300 x 9 is not a sure thing. I got there, and was Prime stable, but my temps were uncomfortably high and it would not go much higher than that and remain stable. Lotsa folks report they could not even get that far. Some have gotten into the 340 x 9 range, but that involves a large luck...
