Anyone here have experience with GE Profile appliances?

I echo the sentiments regarding Samsung and LG. Feature heavy, quality mediocre, tend to wear out or have critical components fail which cost more to repair than buying a new one (but I repeat myself). I'm shifting towards a mindset of function specific rather than brand as I get more...

When travelling, at what point do you fly instead of drive?

My threshold is fairly low but I travel a lot for business. Usually a 4 hour drive if local (so I'll drive to Portland from Seattle but if I had to commute to Eugene I'd try and fly). If I'm flying to a client site, I'll usually drive 60 minutes to 90 minutes rather than fly a connection...

Would you pay a "membership fee" to see a doctor?

I agree with the first paragraph - I am a proponent of alternate pricing models and if a subscription fee is imposed in lieu of taking insurance I'm all for it. But doing so in addition to charging insurance for even routine care is really sketch to me.

    ATOT Kitchen Cutlery Thread

I am partial to Victorinox cutlery myself. Bought a full set (including block) piecemeal a few years ago and never looked back. No fancy metal grips but man, do the knives hold their edge. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

    2% credit card?

So you get 2 points for every dollar spent on the card, you can choose from a range of Fidelity accounts (I believe you could do a retirement-specific like IRA or Roth IRA, regular checking or savings, and other accounts like 529 plans). Whether the amount is insured under FDIC or SIPC rules...

Paypal ordered by CRA to disclose transaction info

Because you register the sale of the car. The government knows about the sale and can apply the tax at the time of title transfer. The used TV is harder to track - partly because people pay via PayPal and other means. If they can track the sale and impose the tax via some automated mechanism...

    2% credit card?

I'm a huge fan of the Fidelity rewards program, 2% back if deposited into a Fidelity account, no limit. I put $1,500 a year into a 529 just using rewards. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

Fox News Fair & Balanced Uranium One Deal

From what I have read (and it seems difficult to me to tell so far what is fact versus tabloid sensationalism), it was a relatively modest effort in a troll farm, at most, nothing of the sophistication I'd expect from one of our erstwhile geopolitical foes. So, if they were spamming, they're...

Anyone else feel like they're slowing down in the tech world?

Hillary lost. No matter how much she rigged her own party's processes in her favor, how much she played her gender and somehow simultaneously that of a victim, she lost. That's how pathetic a candidate she really was. Must hurt to have to feel that.

Massively talented? You mean the low rent amateur hack jobs with a few $1k of investment to purchase? Didn't vote for Trump, but it does give me some schadenfreude that the Democrats' chosen one was so monstrously uninspiring and entitled that she lost to the Other Guys' version of psyops.

Paypal ordered by CRA to disclose transaction info

To be clear, my example of $50 in unpaid tax (cumulative for a given year) is taken directly from Colorado's example - retailers are required to send summaries to purchasers with $500 or more in purchases in a year. In any event, this about Canada, so I will bow out and leave this to our...

Paypal ordered by CRA to disclose transaction info

I can't speak to the CRA, just speculating based on what I've observed in the US. Most states with an income tax have a line for you to self-report use tax (and of course the sellers are required to report gains on property sold). I'm not sure how self-reported use tax numbers were...

GOP tax plan musing...capping 401k contributions at $2400 year

I'm doubtful many middle class people took this deduction. This is a miscellaneous itemized deduction which is only deductible to the extent they exceed 2% of your AGI - and only then to the extent you itemize. My guess is practically this was another provision aimed at wealthier taxpayers.

Paypal ordered by CRA to disclose transaction info

Different jurisdictions, but I've had accidents in Washington, Texas, and California, and I was always able to get a cruiser to respond and issue a report. Your medical coverage

I was on an Aetna HDHP the last few years, $2,500 deductible, $6k max out of pocket. Double the limits for a married couple, but they're still applied to the individual - so I hit my max out of pocket this year so my costs are covered in full but my wife's are not. They're now eliminating that...
