Yes, see if the bios work before frying ur win2k, but from my LIMITED experience a bios flash does not require a OS reinstallation to work

ECS K7S5A 133mhz FSB unstable?

How about the PSU? I once had a similar problem with my k7v not being stable when the memory bus was set to 133, (.25 Athlon = power hungry) and I changed the power supply and it run fine Still, more info on ur system will definitely help DHL

Have you check the event viewer in win2k for any error message if the crash is caused by a particular service/app? How is the crash? Is it BSOD or the screen just lock up? Can u still move ur mouse pointer? If the crash is win2k related, then format and reinstall might help DHL

Damn Floppy .. the light is on .. and the cables are connected the right way.

Same here, I bent a few pins on the FDD and reverse the notched cable, and it works for me DHL

Thanks for the replies. It works. The 2 ICQ were indeed using the same port, together with some stupid proxy server settings in the gateway machine that created this problem

Pull CMOS with Power On???

The high tech ppl here might be able to enlight me 1) Would it be safer if I pull out the bios chip when the machine is under suspend-to-ram, or any other suspend mode? 2) Would bios shadowing help to reduce the no of access of the bios chip? TIA DHL

Color code of parallel port wiring

Not too sure about other parallel standard, but I ve just had a quick look at the IEEE1284 std for compliant cable, it only specified the electrical characteristics, no info on the color is given. I might be reading the wrong doc for color, however.

Thanks for the comment, at least I know what's wrong. :) Basically I am asking if any ISA devices can use the system DMA controller to do data transfer JUST by mean of special software drivers? I think this is more relevant to ISA devices as most of the PCI devices I have seen have bus...
