Why no direct PCI-attached harddrives?

BTW, is it possible for 2 IDE drives connected to the same IDE channel to run at different speeds at the same time(for example: ATA 100 and the 2nd drive ATA 66), or do they switch to the lowest data rate in common? Greetings

Why no direct PCI-attached harddrives?

My question is: As bus converters (internal HDD bus -> IDE -> PCI) slow performance and increase latency, why are there no direct-PCI connected harddrives, e. g. over a PCI bridge? My example: As PCI is a parallel bus interface, maybe there could a hdd be configured without an IDE interface...

When are the new SB Audigy drivers going to come out?

Since I installed my Audigy, the standby mode doensn't work any more under Windows XP Prof, the new drivers changed nothing. Is there any workaround/bugfix out there? I think I heard once that there are problems with Audigy and standby under XP, any proof for this? Cu and thanks for your help...

I think the problem is to get the gpu acting like you want, I mean, is the instruction set of modern gpu's enough for executing x86-like software?? Who knows? Any low-level vertex-shader developers in here, who could answer this question? This is simply too heavy for me :-) Cu Bene

I was thinking more about this topic, how would it be to have gpu-supported divx encoding??? Wow, the speed must be incredible. But, I don't know, I think you need a FPU capable gpu for that (e.g. Radeon 9700)??? This would be interesting for me as I'm encoding movies quite often. Cu B. W.

How to activate "Suspend to RAM" (ACPI S3)??

How to activate "Suspend to RAM" (ACPI S3)??

Thanks for your help, but I think you are wrong... Even with "Suspend To RAM" activated in BIOS, Windows still saves it's RAM content to the harddisk and switches off the PC. It is faster than normal booting, but not as fast as "Suspend to RAM" could be, because with this option Windows holds...
