How are the 80mm fans that come with the Antec1040 case?

Anyone try using green scrubbie pads or dryer sheets as filters? I have read about these in other threads, but have never tried either.

What is the best tool to use to install a retail amd hs/f??

I used a long flat screwdriver and it only took a minute to install. Some older AMD HSF clips were installed using a nut driver. There are good instructions on AMD's website. It is much more complete than the poster that comes with the cpu.

How to BOOT or from WinXP CD-ROM? OR Make a BOOTABLE CD-ROM?

The Windows XP CD Rom is a bootable disk. All you have to do is make sure your bios will boot from CD drive. I just built my new rig last week and loaded up XP this way.

Micron 512 MB PC2100 DDR Modules

I guess I should have posted the chip numbers initially. I am certain that they designate a PC1600 256MB module. My question is whether or not the module can be modified to fool the computer. I think it can be by editing the EEPROM (SPD), but not absolutely sure. MT46V32M8 -8 A

anyone done this to a heatsink?

I think you should try setting both fans to blow into the heatsink. Put 4 cm on the side of the HS so it blows towards the back of the case. In my case I'm thinking this would help as I also have an exhaust case fan nearby. This will create cool air coming in two sides of the heatsink (top...

See previous post, I was busy typing the latest info while you posted. According to everything I've read, the bios and windows rely on info from the EEPROM. That info can easily be corrupted by DIMM testing hardware.

Removing the top of antec case ...

You guys are modding the case without removing the mobo, drives, cards, etc..? Please tell me it isn't so. If you are drilling in your case with the guts in it, good luck.

Fatal Bios Beep Codes

Bought a test stick from Best Buy (30 day return no doubt). Works fine. I found out that registered ECC ram has been incompatible with most new DDR boards. If you are buying a KT266A board, use the cheap memory. The ECC Registered won't work in most boards.

Wow, that's a first. I actually found the answer myself before someone posted it for me. FYI, the UNEEC powersupply unit is made by High Power. AMD Approved? Definitely!! :) UNEEC is the new name for ChenMing, the case manufacturer for Antec, Chieftech, Alienware, etc..

What cpu will you use in your next upgrade or new system?

Just upgraded to XP 1900. Should arrive tomorrow afternoon. Chose AMD for price and performance. System will be used primarily for gaming and I won't be overclocking, so stability won't be an issue. I have always paid special attention to my cooling methods so XP is not a hassle at all.
