I don't believe there is a difference between the two, just small ones. The XPS has the silver/gray lining around the keyboard whereas the 9100 has the blue lining. The XPS offers the 3.4Ghz Prescott Processor with Hyperthreading (as well as the Extreme Edition), the 9100 does not. The XPS...
I need suggestions on purchasing a new Hard Disk. My motherboard, the Asus P4PE has a SATA controller on it and I'm wondering if I should go for the Serial ATA drives or stick with the trusted IDE drives. I want the drive to have 8mb cache, it must have the fluid ball bearings so it is quiet...
The NV35 benchmarks look good but what good are they since they won't be shipping cards till July/August. By that time, ATI will be either shipping or announcing their answer to the NV35. Probably a Radeon 9900 Pro with a higher clocked core, DDRII and perhaps some more architecture...
For some reason, my dad's computer has WinXP installed on one partition C, and another WinXP installed on another partition D. So everytime I boot up I get the OS selection screen. I want it to automatically boot to the partition C OS. Is there anyway I can get rid of the D OS without having...
Is there any way to get the ATI Remote Wonder to work with other brand name TV Tuner cards? I don't really want ATI's TV tuner card because I heard they don't have very good drivers.
I'd like to do that but I've heard of some incompatibilities of ATI's TV Tuners with WinXP. Also, I've considered getting either a Hauppage or Pinnacle tuner but then I wouldn't be able to use my Remote Wonder with them. Unless there are some plugins for them out there which I haven't been able...
Just wondering if it is possible to use the new ATI All in Wonder VE PCI card with my Radeon 9700 Pro. I'd be using the AIW VE as a secondary card mostly for its TV Tuning and capture capabilities but I'd still want my 9700Pro as my primary display for gaming purposes. I have two monitors too...
Great comparison you made FlashTankX. Exactly what I was looking for :)
I really like the idea of being able to record audio with the minidisc. That would be so useful being a university student and all. But I'm also very active and I would like to do some running with my music. I'm thinking...
I have a PC and I'm wondering how well the iPod will work with it. I know with Macs you can just plug the ipod to your Mac and all the songs pretty much send themselves. Is the software that comes with the iPod any good for the PC? Also, on the iPod hard drive, can you store anything else other...
Hey all. I'm looking to purchase an MP3 player of some sort and I'm trying to decide between an iPod or a Minidisc walkman. I like the iPod but it's a little expensive. Are minidisc players any good? Any advantages that one has over the other. My last portable music player was an old CD...
I'm not much of an overclocker and I'm curious how far my cpu will go. Here are my specs:
Asus P4PE (with all the goodies)
Intel 2.4B Ghz (Stock cooling)
Kingston PC2700 DDR
ATI Radeon 9700Pro
SB Audigy
Antec 430Watt P/S
I just need help with the BIOS settings and the voltage. I know how to...
I have the ASUS P4PE but with all the options on board. I've had it for about a month now and I've had no problems with it. Intel's 845 chipset is pretty mature now so there should be no problems with it. It doesn't have AGP 8X but that only gives small performance gains anyway and it's not...
- Try lapping the heatsink (make it smooth like a baby's bottom)
- Check the air circulation in the case (Perhaps try getting rounded IDE cables)
- BIOS revisions (some revisions make changes to the voltage regulator on the boards which affect temps)
- Air intake/outake ratio (I read an article...
If you go with Intel, definitely go with an Intel chipset. They may not be as feature rich as the SIS chipset boards or newer AMD boards, but it's almost certain you'll have high compatibility and stability. The intense validation that Intel puts their chips through pretty much guarantees this...
Does anyone have any experience with P4 cooling without fans? I'm considering getting a Zalman heatsink because they seem to be the quietest out there. I'm not really looking to overclock my 2.4ghz P4 so I should be safe. Are there any good Canadian online stores where I can pick one up?
This is the first time I've tried playing around with IRQ settings and I need some help. First of all I'm using an ASUS A7V333 (no RAID) on Windows2000 Pro. I have 2 cards that I need to place in PCI slots. I just need to know which is the best slot to put them in so that there are no IRQ...
hmm... I'm still not convinced. I wouldn't mind getting an ATI card but I'm worried I'll have to dish out some more money for shipping costs if I have to exchange my card for another revision. Anymore opinions on this? I'm having trouble deciding on this for some reason...
Well, I was intent on getting the GF4 Ti4600 but now I'm reconsidering. My friend suggested I go with ATI because of the better image quality. What's holding me back is the immature drivers and BIOS revisions of the 9700Pro.
I really need help weighing my options here. I'm looking to purchase a system within the next 2 weeks and I'm deciding between the ATI 9700 Pro and the Nvidia GF4 Ti4600. Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages I've come up with so far. Feel free to add or comment on them.
ATI 9700...
I'm trying to decide between 2 monitors. One with Shadow Mask and the other with Flat Aperture Grille. I'm leaning more towards the Aperture Grille one but I'm kinda worried about the 2 lines that can be seen on the screen. Are the lines very distracting or are they unnoticeable? Also, is a...
I've been testing my RAM sticks and I suspect that at least one of the 2 Crucial PC2100 DDR Ram modules is corrupt. If this is the case and I wish to exchange the stick for a new one, do I just send it to Crucial or to my reseller for replacement? Also, do I need to include any papers or...
You may have some bad memory sticks. I'm in the process of testing my memory modules to see if they are corrupt or not. I downloaded this utility which test your memory modules and so far I've found at least one of them has some bad memory addresses. The stick has caused Warcraft 3 and Starcraft...
I was wondering if any of you can help me turn a scene from a DVD into an MPEG file on my hard drive. I was going to use this scene in a class presentation but I'm not sure how to do it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I've uploaded a pic of the error message I get for one of my games (Warcraft 3). During gameplay the game will switch to the desktop and display this error message. Here it is:

I think it is a RAM issue but not too sure. Any help would be...
I think the only thing you may have to watch for are the fans for the major components like your cpu, your graphics chip and your motherboard chipset (if you have one). If one of those go out then it's possible those chips could overheat. My computer is always on as well.
I am using SETI driver right now but I'm finding that it's taking a while for work units to arrive. Are there any other places to download WU's other than the Berkley servers?
I bought the ABIT KR7A-Raid in December and it became very unstable around March. I figured it was a bad board because I tried several reinstalls of the OS (winxp pro) and the system would even freeze while installing it. I exchanged my memory for some good Crucial RAM and I even updated my...
Just wondering when it'll be available in stores. I know it's been officially announced but there's usually a bit of a wait before we start seeing them in the distribution channels.
You guys should really check if your heatsink and cpu are making good contact before powering up. Before I start my computer on a fresh install I always put the heatsink on and then remove it to see if the full rectangular imprint of the arctic silver is on the bottom surface of the heatsink. If...
