aaaand, that's a bust, I can't find a reliable place to find the old Nvidia drivers that actually work with this hybrid patch. The last set of drivers that worked were 9.11.0621... oh well, it was a nice idea, right?

ok, I have a further question, has anyone done this? It's not clear to me at what point I'm dropping the card in, is that before or after I've installed the nvidia drivers. Does dropping the card in before teh drivers screw anything up? if the card goes in after the drivers should teh patch also...

Monitor Trouble

Yes, I did try and run the monitor off a laptop on Analog, no it's not getting an out of spec notifyication, it doesn't even come up with the menu options that the monitor would normally advise on brightness, it simply goes black after about 1/2 a second, which is I believe the 'standby mode...

Thanks very much for the suggestions so far. I did try rebooting with it connected and disconnected. I tried rebooting with it off an on when connected. all with no results. Sorry, I left out that the monitor responds this way regardless what PC is plugged in or whether it's a DVI or SVGA cable...

Been out of the LOOP for 5 years.

I'm wondering what the benefit is to switching to a smaller case. I have an 1156 mobo so I could throw the thing in an mATX case, but the i5 processor spits up *a lot* of heat so I've got a nice fan in there... wouldn't throwing the thing in an mATX case cause heat issues? I'm a gamer and I...

Thanks so much guys for the info... wow, just wow. I find it funny, I went out before I read the replies deciding that it must be true heat because I can see the heat dispate in the bios, especially if I blow some canned air on the stock heat sink... I say wow because I actually bought the fan...

and thanks for your input, but actually it *was* the SSD that was the problem, XP will boot with everything *except* the SSD, with the SSD that was the only times I'd get that error.

yes, I can boot from the upgrade DVD, simply select full install and don't enter a serial number. The only thing I did that was different than the directions I found was to *not* install all the updates before doing the second install that is the upgrade install that you put the serial number in...

ok, found the double install directions and followed that... Sad thing is that it says that the installation of windows is newer than what I'm trying to instal from... so I think I have to go back and do it all over again... yaaay trial and error.

Is an upgrade from Q6600 to Q9400 or Q9550 worthwhile?

the only overclocking I've done was back in the AMD K2 days... I think that was Jurassic period. I've looked for walkthroughs and I just can't figure out how I'm supposed to know what I should be changing voltages etc to... or memory timings to for that matter. I should probably spend more time...

iPad x Asus Eee 1001P - Wich is best for a student?

Acconding to this weeks ep of TWiT it's possible to use the iPad as a student pc but not advisable given the lack of multi tasking and the crappy keyboard at a minimum you'd need a blue tooth keyboard. Then just hope you don't need flash
