Sorry it took so long to reply...kinda lost this thread a while ago. Anyway, I have a Promise SX4000 RAID controller. It's a 4ch ATA RAID which supports RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1, and RAID 5. I think 3ware makes a card which does RAID 5 as well, but I'm pretty sure it's a lot more pricey. - Mark

XP upgrade problems

One other thing you can try. I noticed you said that you reformatted and installed Win98. Presumably, you have the XP upgrade disc, and not the full version. You can actually install the upgrade version WITHOUT an existing OS on the drive, as long as you have a CD with a previous OS on it...

You said that you updated to the latest version from the Nero site. I'm assuming you mean you updated the software. If that's the case, try going to Verbatim's website and prod around for firmware updates. I know, it'd be stupid of Verbatim to ship their drives with incompatibility issues...
