New video card but not much cash

hmm.. depends, depends. there is a gf ti4200 out there that uses a much higher rated memory than others, that one can oc like a BEAST. did asus make it? i cant recall... that would be my first suggestion, assuming you can still find it. but then again you may want dx9 spec for longetivity...

The life of your video card?

voodoo3... 1 year radeon 32mb (non-ddr, pci)... 9 months radeon 8500... 16 months and still going i am planning to upgrade though, as soon as i get enough money, to a AIW 9700 pro. i think 18 months is a goodly number for gpu upgrade time. edit: oh, and nothing ever died on me

nah... just make sure you have enough space. the computer you push the image to has to be the same though, or you'll get nasty driver errors.

Help...Power Outage and My friend's pc stopped working...

hd is bad.. run a scandisk and then a repair install. but did you say that you changed memory and it booted? might wanna check your memory too. run memtest86 to do that. but it sounds like the hd.. esp if it got interrupted in the midst of a huge operation like that.

Computer just went apesh!t...

well corrupted HDs happen incredibly often for me when i OC... just run the scandisk and see if you have any bad sectors. one time after i fixed the disk my comp was a good 25% slower until i reinstalled windows.. that sucked. you may try running a repair installation too.

i can lay it out right now... 9700 pro AIW $350 barton 2500+ $87 256mb corsair xms3200 $59 hmm thats a little more than $450 but i'll get it back by selling my 8500 and my 1700+.

how to unlock bartons?

i'm thinking of ordering a barton 2500+ from newegg cuz they're cheap, and my old 1700+ needs replacing. i've been searching the net to figure out how to unlock it, and i've read that you simply need to bridge the 5th L3 connection. is this true? i trust you guys more than some random site on...

no, actually, the 5200 and 5600 are quite a bit SLOWER than what is currently available in the budget sector. the 5600 cant even beat out the 4200, which has been out for how long now? the only thing going for them is dx9. so, yeah, i would say that any card that has to intentionally sabotage...

well, the thread is "thoughts on the geforce fx line".... how easy is it to find an fx 5800 ultra? i thought nvidia was not going to ever mass produce them. seems that, as 9800 pro will be much more prevalent, higher supply should dictate a lower price. and as i'm sure you know, the cards...

well, what about these benchmarks? the 5800 ultra is only one part of the fx line, and a very tiny, hard-to-find part at that. and the rest of the line doesnt look very promising at all, if you ask me, esp if more ppl find out what hardocp found.

diehardware says that if you just patch your game it goes away, so its not entirely ati's fault, is it? also, have you read up on the new geforcefx line over at hardocp ? it seems to me that nvidia is intentionally hurting their 3d image quality in order to get a higher benchmarking score...

Need some help here. (Athlon XP)

well dont look on the site, its prolly not "official." look in the bios to see if that 1:2:5 divider option is offered. thats what i do with my abit kt-333 board... i can crank it to 166 even though its not "official." is the 2400+ a barton part? all these + ratings overlap and confuse me...

you cant do 166 fsb on that board? i thought those were 166fsb cpus... higher operating voltage just means it'll run a tad hotter, and may not be able to oc as far. hate to say it, but there isnt really a cpu in existence that will not be a bottleneck with either the 9700 or 9800. well, not...

what chip are you unlocking? i've had experience unlocking the xp 1700+ (and its related chips.. palomino core i think? its the one right after tbird) and found that if you ground out the worst thing that will happen is that the chip will be just stuck at its default multiplier. i dunno why...

They do, but they're not essential.. just eye candy. AA (Anti-Aliasing) is an algorithm that, in one of several ways, gets rid of those jaggy edges on diagonal lines by blurring the image somewhat. Gets rid of jaggies, sometimes blurs textures. Also gives big time performance hit the higher...

Does 128mb really matter right now?

i've hit a limit last summer already with my 64mb radeon 8500 when sof2 came out. i play in 16x12 and when i upped texture quality from 'high' to 'very high' there was big time slowdown, most likely cuz the game needed to hit up the system memory for texturing. i mean, nothing to complain...

how to change Docs and Sets default location?

thx Wobble, but that's not quite what i mean: 'My Documents' is a subdirectory of the 'C:/Documents and Settings' folder. I would like to move the entire D&C folder to the second partition, not just pieces of it. I'm pretty sure this involves a registry tweak... i already posted on the MS...

k, i fixed it. turns out it WAS the cmos. i was afraid to clear it before since it would shut off the temp protect, but once i made sure my hsf was on properly i reset it and it posted fine. course, no guarantee it wont crash and burn once i slap it back in the case, but at least i got it to...
