Crap, you're right. I ripped it first to her laptop, then did the backup, which took 8 minutes!! Then why the hell do these manufacturers cripple fast laptops with slow dvd drives, what's the logic there?

Got it...tested it... The verdict: it doesn't...suck. Movie watching, particular Blu-ray is highly satisfying which is what I was expecting, since plenty of digital techs at work watch hi-def trailers on their 30" lcds and usually they look pretty good. Games, however, I wasn't expecting...

When I had XP Pro, all I had to do was make sure that 'MPEG2' was enabled under 'Codecs' and that 'DVD Decoding' was checked. If so, Windows Media Player 11 would use ffdshow for DVDs, as well as other videos. But in Vista Ultimate, which I'm still learning about, Windows Media Player 11 does...

Am total noob to latest processors - which is the better processor for gaming? Intel® Core?2 E8300 (6MB,2.83GHz, 1333FSB) or Intel® Core?2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB) Sorry if that's a stupid question. I get the feeling that it is... thanks in advance...!

Crap, just when I thought this issue was resolved - a friend offered me a $50 best buy gift card, and my local BB is selling the HD3870 for $250. So now I have the opportunity to get the HD4850 from Newegg for $200 or the HD3870 from BB for $200. I do want good HD performance for my blu-ray...
