Need Help choosing P4 mobo..Asus P4b266 or Abit BD7II/IT7 Max

Really? Just to make sure than all the nifty new components in my new PC worked, I installed Windows 98 First Edition and had no problems. I also have installed (to a successful conclusion) 2000 Server and XP Professional (XPpro remains).

Overclocking P4 1.6a on ABIT IT7

Did you try to increase core voltage to attempt to get a more stable condition for the 139-143 MHz FSB? Many individuals are getting their 1.6a/IT7 combos to 2.4 in a stable manner. Have you had a look over at overclockers.com?

Is there a good Outlook Express backup program out there...free would be nice!!

Tis just as easy to copy the Applications Data, Favorites, and Cookie folders into an archive (WinRAR/WinACE).

Speakers for on-board 5.1 sound?

Yes, the headphone jack. Also, I believe most consumer sound cards have a line-in jack. notice these are typically not RCA-style. But, most speaker sets for 5.1 are not of this style. I guess I could make it easier (NewEgg.com picture): See the coloful little speaker connectors? NewEgg Photo...

STEAM

Not really. STEAM is used to send a 500MB cached file to your computer for the beta versions for testers (I was a 1.4 beta tester). STEAM was also used for beta of DMC and TFC, and I believe, if not already so, for 2.0.

What is accessing my hard drive?

I do not know if this is applicable or not to the Home Edition, but check and see if Indexing Services is running. Also, if you are running any Norton AV software, see if the Live File System protection is enabled is it is available.

Fdisk / Partition in WinXP?

I think the reason for this is that the USB intermediate subsystem makes the external hard drive appear like a static memory device, like a smart card, CF, etc. Although I could be wrong as I am frequently pointed out as being so. :D

XP and CD authoring software

I don't think so. Its driving an older Sony 10/8/16 CDRW, and the erase activity of a 8X CDRW disc took 40 minutes. I then tried to burn some files, including the /documents & Setting/testuser directory, which was about 32MB in file content, and it errored out. Again, this is not a perfect test...

Windows 2000 & CDROM Auto-Insertion feature

How do I get Windows 2000 from automatically trying to launch whatever is on a CD when its inserted in the CDROM drive? i know how to turn this feature off in Windows 9x, but 2000 is just being an ass. Anyone?
